Adultnapper at Un Zoo la Nuit - Feb. 9th at Academy

Adultnapper. The name should be enough to raise the hair on your arms. With a name whispered in crack dens and underground discothèques around the world, this minimal fella otherwise known to his mother as Christopher Francis Harris makes tracks that gently penetrate your soul - and never get out.

He has recorded on Audiomatique & Dirt Crew, now has his own label Ransom Note USA, and has recently appeared on Mr. C's latest mix "Superfreq Express" as well as on Steve Bug's Fabric mix.

This will be Adultnapper's first time ever in Montreal, and Un Zoo la Nuit is proud to welcome this red-headed prodigy for a night of deep, delicious minimal tech.

from the little material i've heard from adultnapper this guy's pretty top notch fo sho! curved by a though (gorgeous track).

Will be there without a doubt.
Francis has been a very prolific producer
back when tech house was just starting out.
He used to throw the infamous Matter:Form
boat parties in NYC with the likes of
Layo & Bushwaka and countless others.

A great guy, well rounded producer with
solid taste in music and above all he's
an awesome DJ..

He'been booked at Stereo along with Mr. C
around 2 years ago, so this should actually
be his second Montreal appearance...

See you guys there

Posted by CliffordBrown on Feb-05-2008 23:41:

Wow that Mr. C gig passed below my radar at the time cuz I had no idea he had been here before !! Or else I would have been there ;-)

I'm also playing with Adultnapper in Quebec City on Friday if anybody's from around there... can't wait !

Posted by jester on Feb-07-2008 22:05:

53 hours, give or take

Posted by CliffordBrown on Feb-08-2008 17:34:

I'm picking up Francis tonight at the Quebec City airport, and we're going to drink a lot of booze at Sonàr afterwards !

He hasn't released anything since Juror No. 9 on Audiomatique, so expect shitloads of new tracks thrown in the mix... and the Academy's management have FINALLY fixed the sound system, and it sounds like a ton of bricks !

Ok its review time!
Arrived at around 12:30, as I was walking up the stairs to get in I could hear Clifford dropping a choon that I like so it was already a good start. Once I walked into the room I was in shock and dissapointed in Montreal! There was allmost nobody inside and maybe 4 people dancing! Luckily I brought 15 people to fill up some of the gap inside! Adultnapper got on around 1ish and started dropping his strange minimal that I love and than he started getting into the harder tekier funkier side of the minimal! He played such an amazing set, this guy would have destroyed the dancefloor if the crowd would have been there. At one point of the night the danceflooe sort of filled up and things got better. I stayed untill the end dancing to show my support. Now I dont know why it was that empty... I think the night lacked promotion because nobody even knew it was happening untill I told them. These nights have so much potential it pisses me off too see it wasted like that! Besides the emptyness I had a great time! Adultnapper dropped a couple that I have, cant remember all the names but theres 2 that click right away.... Swat Squad - natural gun and Donnacha Costello - black bag job! Black bag Job is wowwwwwwwwwwwwww on the dancefloor.
Im out!

Yeah man, you pretty much summed it up in a nut shell.
I've always enjoyed Francis' track selection, and would
have loved to see that room packed - but where were all
those enthusiasts hyping this event up???

Great recruiting job Nacht - hope your friends had fun.
I arrived at around 1:30 from a prior engagement, and
didn't leave the dancefloor. It brings shame to hear
that Quebec City and Toronto can pull a stronger crowd
to support the techno scene than our beloved city.

In the words of Abe Duque @ Mutek Igloofest.....
"Montreal..... What the fuck happened?"

We had the event mentioned on here, Rave.ca, Rave Montreal, in the Mirror's listings, in the Nightlife Magazine's newsletter and there was a feature on him in the Feb. issue as well. I hammered Facebook like crazy too, as well as my 500 persons mailing list (mostly clubbers).

Since the club didn't help us with promo + I invested all I have in the advance & flight costs, we couldn't print flyers, and I don't believe in them anyway - if you don't check out resources like websites & listings, you're unlikely to find a flyer, i.e. you probably have no interest in the music scene at all. Flyers are obsolete.

We lost so much money on this one that I doubt we'll continue to promote events. After Mossa, Dalessandro & Water Lilly in March, it's over for me anyway. Montrealers just don't give a fuck anymore. If they wanna go to Boys Noize gigs six times a year for the rest of your life, fine, because I'm done booking interesting & original artists.

On that note, I want to thank the few who showed up, we had a blast !

I didnt know you had promoted it that much, wow! I guess Montreal is just finished... Ill continue to support untill the end though

that is what jeff (diskho) told me a few months ago.

We're both very patient men, but enough is enough, you know ?

I was also about to book Samim and had been negociating Efdemin for close to six months now, when an unnamed local festival snatched 'em both off my hands. I'd like to thank them because if I had organised these parties I would probably have lost money again. Now I can go out and just hear them play, and let somebody else go into debt.
