Best Video Editing Software [for n00b video production]

Any suggestions on what to use? I just want to edit videos (cut, paste, remove, etc...) and add a fancy effect here or there.

adobe premiere isnt bad. i havent used it in years though.

here's a decent comparison of various S/W on the market.

I've used Powerdirector and Ulead before. I found Powerdirector was pretty easy to work with. Ulead kept crashing.

Windows Movie Maker is easy to use too, but it had limitations and didn't work too well for me at the time.

When you really get into it, check out Adobe After-Effects.

iMovie for basic shit... final cut + after effects for the real shit.

windows movie maker if theres absolutely NO other option... probably the least stable video editing program out there...

WMM is good. there's a lot of fun shit you can do with it. but it is SOOOOOOOO unstable, it crashes so often. very VERY frustrating
