Paranormal State

I've been watching this show since it started and a part of me thinks its complete BS but there is a part of me that really wants to believe.

Anybody here believe in the paranormal or has had experiences of their own?

Not any of my own but when I was living in Saudi Arabia....My friends family had numerous times heard people walking and doors being opened and closed repeatedly even though there was no windows open for wind to make them shut or open or anyone upstairs walking when all the members used to be downstairs watching TV......Freaky haunted house stuff

+1

I feel like the show is complete BS, but I also feel thats its 100% true.

Althought i've never experienced any paranormal experience, I completely believe that is possible!

A close friend I respect very much is a DIE HARD sylvia brown/astrology nut. I've forced myself to read some of her favourite "changed my life" kind of books. I still find it hard to swallow.

She says I don't believe because Im jealous I can't understand that my cat CAN be inhabited by the soul of a past wife....I say that this stuff prey's on those who can't identify with organized religion but still need to believe in something 'greater'.

We are at a stalemate.

I'd love to believe in the paranormal...however there are too many F*&kers who get booked trying to cash in for me to do so.

I have had MANY experiences that I refuse to believe are sherely coincidence because the odds against them are astronomical...(I loved finate math).

But I have not ruled out that what seems 'fate/destiny/whatever' and 'clearly not coincidence' is not my minds subjective interpretation of the event in question.

And F(*( off with the drug jokes...this has been happening since I was a child...I actually believed I had psychic powers back then...REALLY(FLAME ON!!!)....but as I got older and learned how they mind worked I realized that maybe my 'photographic' memory was not so accurate outside of a classroom etc. etc...

I'm not talking about exorcisms but more just paranormal activities and such.....some of the stuff on this show is really interesting but a part of me thinks things seem to happen just too regularly for them. They will get some funky new motion detection device and wouldn't you believe it...they use it and it detects something. It also seems that most people that have these experiences have a religous background.

I've never really believed in ghosts or hauntings but sometimes things just don't seem to have any other explaination.

Real or not, they present it well enough to give me the willies.

That stuff is total BS...

Sometimes you just want to believe that shit so badly even though you know its not possible. You can even use magic as an example...sometimes we watch it thinking to ourselves "how the fuck did that happen...must be magic" but when we find out how the trick was done it changes everything...most of the time the explanation for certain happenings are very simple.

You frighten me with your thought patterns. It is like looking in a mirror.

As I hate +1, here's my version....

ME TOO!

That is exactly why I will not watch it.
Saw the advertisements for it and that was enough for me.

It wasn't a bad episode.....the piano haunting was kinda spooky.

and thats the problem I am having....I've never had a paranormal experience so it makes it difficult for me to believe....but I can't rule it out as there are countless numbers of people that claim to have had such experiences.

I have absolutely no doubt that "paranormal" events happen; however, whether or not the cause of these events are ghosts/spirits/etc I question. Definately, people experience things that they don't understand and likely perceive them as being supernatural in origin... that does not mean they are. I suspect that many people who have heard foot steps in an empty house have actually heard the house settling or shifting. It's probable that people who have felt spirits touch them were likely feeling some sort of electo-magnetic imbalance. My guess is that most people who perceive a momentary feeling of cold and attribute it to a ghost are really experiencing a brief drop in blood preassure brought on by their fear that a ghost may be present. Don't get me wrong, I believe in a life (or an existance) after death; however, I think most of the instances people attribute to the activity of spirits is more likely due to some biological, psychosematic, or natural phenomenon.

Is this show on any of those 'all christian' channels? Maybe it was the only episode I ever watched, but by the end of the show when they all started praying etc, it turned me right off.

agreed....I think people want the paranormal to exist so badly that they convince themselves of its presence without stopping to consider more likely explanations....never underestimate the power of suggestion....

lol reminds me of the Girls Next Door where i think holly is convinced her room is haunted/ the mansion is by some lady who died from falling off a balcony. they get some paranormal crew to come in with their magic wands which apparently go crazy.. lol

I've witnessed something paranormal one time...

My cousin's mom died when he was a baby, and only thing he still has of her was her watch, he told my our family that recently he's been seeing something strange... so a bunch of family members (about 15 of us) were sitting in a living room talking about it, and he kissed his mom's watch all of a sudden the lights flickered, and an orange glowing orb-like (it was pretty bright too) thing flies from outside in through the door, flew across the room and left out the window... Everyone there saw it and I couldn't believe it with my eyes...

Paranormal, no.

Psychokinetic, yes.

I had a staff phone-list print-out pinned to my office wall with a thumb tack.

I somehow managed to fold it into quarters (half and then half again) using my mind, but what made it strange is that it was not a conscious effort. It just happened while I was focusing on something else. The moment I focused on it - it unfolded.

Seeing is believing

Posted by afterhrsgurl on Feb-05-2008 21:51:

it's hard for me to believe in this stuff because i've never had a paranormal experience but i've heard stories from people who have....so who knows...maybe some day i'll have an experience of my own
and i only caught the very first episode of paranormal state where the little kid kept seeing someone named "timmy" who'd come to him at night...the only freaky part was when the kid pointed timmy out in group picture and said "he's the one that i see"...turns out it was the previous owner of the house haunting the kid
