its hard to describe cheesy...

first off cheesy doesnt automatically mean bad.. there is such a thing as good cheese. but a lot of the cheese thats around is bad.

cheesey means its tacky and cheap sounding, most of ur old electronica will sound cheesy to you now...

heres a few of tunes i regard as cheesy:

riva - stringer (good cheese)
citizen caned - the journey (good cheese)
hi-gate - caned & unable (bad cheese)
paull oakenfold - southern sun (baaaad bad cheese... sounds like an 80's ballad)

Thanks!

Oh Okey =) I'll download them when i get home, i thought it was something like that cause mostly everything i have read with cheesy is when they complain on something.

Hello!

okay cos ur from sweden i'll try to explain what cheese means to us uk ta s
cheese=tacky, cheap sounding, makes you cringe, most people say the poppier side of trance = cheese. Examples: ian van dahl, alice deejay and atb. hope that helps

A good example of cheese.

Lightforce. Except Join Us, which was there only good tune.

or DJ Alligator Project - Blow my Whistle.

Anything by Vengaboys, Aqua & Jay-Z's It's a Hard Knock life. Oh yeah, & Pulsedriver

Any song that has gotten too popular is cheese

voodoo and serano - blood is pumpin (although I do love this song)
darude - sandstorm (cheese of the century)
atb - till i come
storm - time to burn
alice deejay - better off alone
ian van dahl - castles in the sky
warp brothers - We will survive (although its still a good song)
DJ Jean - The launch

Us TA's tend to like underrated songs that don't explode out in the public. Good trance should be kept underground where people who actually enjoy the music will want to learn about it and its not gonna be publicized and downgraded just like how the britney spears and the eminems are.

Paul Van Dyk - pump this party *not sure if it is actually pvd, but it might be?*

Any song that becomes popular outside raver circles. Put Tiesto - Suburban train (or any well regarded song)on the radio and watch how many people start hating it.

I cant believe that so many people reckon that if a track becomes really popular, it becomes bad... wtf?
Thats so stupid, basically then, If *put your fav track ever here* became uber-popular and got an MTV video and won an MTV award, you wouldnt like it any more?

*sigh* What narrow-mindedness these late years of trance have spawned.

Posted by gho on May-07-2002 03:46:

Iio Rapture is as cheesy as it goes. Check out the -> I hate "Iio Rapture" I can't stand it, cheesy vocals!!!!! thread. There you will find the essence of cheese.

I agree totally. That is really stupid.

But anyways, to whoever who started the thread. This is the REAL definition of cheese: When a track becomes really popular and the mainstream likes it, then people who liked the track before starts dissing it and don't like it anymore and label it as cheese. Just because they want to feel like they know so much about trance and feel important etc...

hum.....why are people always confusing a cheesy track and an overplayed track all the time? get it right people!

cheese doesn't become cheese because it gets popular. popular means overplayed not cheesy. cheese means something that sounds tacky, usually associated with a tune that sounds WAY too happy but is not always the case.

example? i think cosmicman productions are cheesy. are his productions really that popular? no! does tiesto, oakenfold, armin and pvd play it? do big famous radio stations beat it to death? i have yet to witness either scenarios.

stop mixing it up. people hate tracks that get popular because its played out. simple. people hate cheese because it sounds super gay!

see. d-jay MyTH has got it spot on.

I think cheesey beats are derived from a basic bass line, fast pace drums leading up to a symbol, and a keyboard (or twinkle, twinkle highs) and nothing else other than maybe some lyrics but thats it. In my mind a good track has to sound full! I don't know if you understand what Im saying but it should genrally sound busy other than for a good epic break down. There should be lots of music going on, on every level of sound from the highs which are the first thing you hear to the very distant background echo. Thats my opinion. I hope it helps.

i agree....u said that perfectley...

to me its when the mainstream people who could care-less about the music the artist or the culture of where that track came from start listening to it oevr and over and over again and beat it to death...then swear to god they know all about trance/tech/what-have-you and over night become ravers cus they ehard Sandstorm or Rapture on the radio...thats what pisses me off...

i say keep it underground ....

Okey what i've learn through this thread and what i think and can figure out myself and what sounds least stupid is that cheesy is when a Song has a cheap kind of sound when all the sounds are kinda small and often to make it sound beter to some, they make thoose songs "happy".

If you don't think like me, don't bother to argue cause this is how i will see cheesy =)

Thank you all!
