that stupid MSN Virus thats going around!!!

I'm sure alot of peope on here are ahead of the game, but for those who aren't here's a warning. I (not my doing) recently caught it on my computer.

For a solid month I've been getting messages from over a dozen people on MSN like "Hey look at the new colour of my hair", "I just took a pic of a crash outside my place", "Look at my man boobs" "check out my myspace pics". etc

The pic is always sent as a zip and if you open that zip, you have clicked an executable file that will then start sending this via your msn to your friends.

I spent an hour seraching the interweb for a way to get rid of it. My virus scanner wasn't removing it. Luckily for me I have no important files on my primary HD and everything is on a back up....makes for an easy & quick format. So I formatted my HD and back to new again.

Has anyone else had this? How did you get rid of it? Has anyone tried http://www.msnvirusremoval.com ?

I've seen this method of removal posted all over the place http://www.liewcf.com/blog/archives...ur-msn-friends/
but appearently it only works on certian strains.

I haven't got one of those messages from you yet, so I think you might be safe. If you have it you'll know...I was getting text messages like "dood, yer msn is going crazy. fix it or I'll kill you"

have you tried running your antivirus in Safe Mode?

Just trying googling for the problem...an antivirus program / spyware/adware remover might not be able to get rid of it completely.

My 12 year old sister was the one who opened it.

as i mentioned above...
I googled it and found that this was the most common fix for the problem

But the amount of time it took for me to read and go through all of that, it was quicker to just format and start over. all my important stuff isn't on my primary HD.


I'm just passing along the heads up, cause I have a fair number of T.A.s on my msn and don't want to spread this anymore than I already might have.

ive gotten more than a few msgs from various ppl on my contact list about checking picture or some business like that.


never click on the links or files though. immediately i was suspicious. how sends images as zips or .exe files over msn? no one i konw.


i never clicked or DLled them. no virus for me.

There are four people on msn who have it and When i looked at it first, It looked fishy and I asked them, by send a msg if they were actually sending a pic or a file they never replied so I never accepted it .....

haha...i got a few of them and started to questions their sexuality...

Yes plus the way it looks is as if they are sending you a complete folder LOL......

Those have been going around for awhile. A year or so ago I was stupid and clicked on one...and learned my lesson, so I never click on that shit. Fortunately only one person on my list had that virus recently, but it was annoying b/c they kept sending the msg over and over. I blocked them until they got rid of the virus just so I don't make a careless error. Just a tip for the future. Another tip...when anyone sends you something kinda fishy like that...or something like "hey is this you"...NEVER click on it. If anything, ask the person what it is first to make sure it's them.

A lot of people on my msn have the virus and it is really annoying. The way I solve the problem is by blocking them.


I recently checked my myspace profile out and noticed that there is a stupid virus on there too.

You're getting a picture sent as a .ZIP. DUH it's a virus. None of my friends have ever sent me a pic by zipping it up first. The first question I'd ask before even accepting the file is, "why is this a zip?"

I actually think this virus is great. It's telling me who the FUCKING MORONS are on my MSN.

not always...people clcik on stuff by accident. I know of a few people who got it by someone else on their computer. me included.

How do you click on something by accident? You're either acting without thinking or you're not. Stupidity is not an accident.

lol yeah... i deleted a few ppl off my msn since i kept getting some of these msgs.

this has been going on for a very long time. some ppl at work got hit by this a few months ago and had their msn privileges taken away. haha suckers!!

Would uninstalling MSN (if you have the virus) and then reinstalling it get rid of the problem?
