Smiley DJ Locals - Tampa Bay - Events/Friends

So, a quick story to introduce my proposition. I moved into the Tampa Bay area about a year and a half ago pursuing my degree. I was living in a small, southern area prior to. When I moved here I fell into new music and a new scene that I had never had the chance to be part of before. So, going on over 6 months of electronic music knowledge, I am still very new to this, but its almost to the point of obsession. I found out quickly that it takes a good amount of time to listen, download, and read about what all is going on and who the artists are. I found that I love many types and styles: from BT to Boys Noize and back around. I have been to a few awesome events in the area, seen some amazing djs, and I am looking to do more. As many as possible to be honest. I do not have many friends that are into this scene and it is a bit scary to go alone. Does anyone here hit up the local venues in the St. Pete/Tampa area? If so, please feel free to reply back..

Smile

I live across the state in Melbourne, but I visit Tampa often.

You should check out Sasha this Sunday at HPC. There's a thread about it, a lot of TA's going so you should be able to meet some there.

I might make the trip, haven't decided yet.

EDIT: Nvm, just saw your post in the Sasha thread, looks like your already going. Should be a good time.

Browse www.beatport.com, browse all the genres, and hear what you like. Develop your own tastes and go from there. This site also features a Cd Reviews/New Releases section where you can listen to the latest tunes. You might wanna hit up your local record store if you wanna go one step further. Listen to the occasional radio show or two. If you look at the Tracklistings section you'll see that there is always a show being broadcast at any given moments. It's all about variety to be honest. As far as making friends sure why not I live in Tampa too. Got msn?

Speaking of radio shows, look out for Hernan Cattaneo's weekly radio show on Metrodance 95.1 - a radio station out of Buenos Airies, Argentina. PM me and I can get you a link where you can d/l the show.

Dunno if you've heard his music before, but he's my favorite DJ atm...best sound out right now, IMO. He plays a mix of superb progressive house mixed with electro/minimal stuff.

I agree.. I came from a place which no one listens to electronic music.. I didn't even start really getting into it until end of '05 and I went to Global Gathering in Miami as my first festival.. WHAT AN EXPERIENCE.. I have never been the same since.. Electronic music produces a feeling like none other.. Welcome to our world..

For me it all started with a RITM show in Orlando. I have never been the same since. It seems that the music I used to listen to just doesn't move me in the same ways anymore.

Thanks for all the info and responses. I hope to chat more and see you around!
