Armin Van Buuren Wednesday March 19 @ Tantra

Always a good show. There with bells on.

I'm so in for this. It's been almost two years since I've seen him.

Armin Van Buuren fans may be interested to read an exclusive interview we've just done with him - it's up on our website: Area 709

Does anyone have an idea of set times for this event?

Posted by Unzinc on Mar-19-2008 06:54:

12-3 am I assume. Usually the headliners spin during those hours at Tantra.

I'll be next door at David Guetta.

Review:

Armin spun a mediocre set. It sounded like another episode of A State of Trance. His set consisted almost entirely of monotonous filler tracks with a few quality trancers and a dash of cheddar. Armin is dropping the quality bar in the programming department, and if he keeps this up hell likely follow the same path as the other number-one ranked DJs before him.

I did not enjoy this at all. I thought Blake played an amazing set. GG to the crowd for chanting Armin for the last hour of Blake's set (he played for about 75 minutes). I even heard some Tiesto chants. Come on guys, really....

We left after 90 minutes of Armin's set. I found it to that point to be uninspired and boring. Armin still can't mix to save his life, what the hell was that he tried to pull out of 'White Sand'? I agree with the previous poster that his programming leaves lots to be desired. He might be the most popular dj in the world but he's far from #1. PVD is by far and away the best on the planet.

Tantra is a horrible venue to have such a large dj. The dancefloor is tiny and it's impossible to get a good vantage point without a speaker or a pillar in your way. We gave up our stools at the railing on the balcony so people could kneel on them to see what was going on. They have video screens everywhere in there, why not set up a camera and stream some video?

Here are a couple vids I took last night.

Linkin Park - Shadow of the Day (Blake Jarrell Remix)

Shadow of the Day singalong

4 Strings - Take Me Away (Re-Ward remix)

Hopefully Armin will be better here as it's a Saturday night show and, well, Edmonton is just better But in all honesty, all I wanna hear is Shadow of the Day... i don't care which DJ plays it.

armin set was boring... it was like another a state of trance set.
the venue suck the dance floor too small for big crowd peoples.

Glad I went to Guetta now.

Tiesto chant

The Tiesto chant was a joke. My friend and I thought it would be pretty funny to start it after hearing Armin chants about 20 times through Jarrell's set (seriously just let the DJ do his thing, stop begging for Armin). And it was pretty successful too, I think at least half the floor started chanting it.

Some chick in front of me turned around and asked me, "Why Tiesto? It's Armin!" Awesome. Our Paul Van Dyk chant attempt failed though

Its people like you who spread stupid shit over the internet. Armin was great and i think 99% of the people there enjoyed it. Sure the venue was small, but if you have such a BIG deal with it then don't go. Next time you try an event like this maybe try to enjoy yourself then whine your whole night through it.
You made the atmosphere better for all of us, thanks for leaving!

p.s Blake had a very good set, but the crowd all wanted Armin at that time

Cant really say what happened with the blake set since i was not there but chanting "Armin Armin Armin" For and hour while he was spinin shows no class on c-towns side. Enjoy what is being presented to ya then have a build up before the "main" dj comes on. I took the opportunity to go to edmonton. Like some one previoulsy posted tantra is just not the right venue for a dj of that size/popularity. Its a sweat box. small dark and cramped. If armins set seemed uninspired its cause it prob was he plays for thousands and thousands of people all over the world with huge crowds and decor and lighting. Tantra is just not up to par. I loved the show in edmonton was amazing awesome lighting sweet dj stage the open concept of the event center is just sweet. The upstairs is sweet big enough for another whole room with its own feel and atmosphere, arcade room when your too fucked to dance anymore and wanna play some vids. I will gladly make the trip to edmonton any time that the event center is being utilizied. And by the way Sander Rocked!! My first time seein the guy, but definately not the last!!! Bring back the palace!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1 the only real decent club Calgary had for parties!
