WHERE : 147 East Pender, Vancouver, British Columbia V6A 1T6

TICKETS/PHONE : 778 317 2007 (anytime)
GENERAL: Up and coming DJ duo Techja and Robinski are packed with potential and will be showcasing their passion for music which generates a fresh and electric atmosphere. Add to that a clever knack for meshing tunes of a variant selection, progressing from house to trance, and they are sure to shock your senses.
MUSIC STYLE: Electro House Progressive Trance
Going along with the events theme there is promised to be a generous dose of electro house. Thick beats, dirty bass and sexy grooves are common in this style.
As the night progresses, their style progresses. With an infallible taste in trance selections they ride that very spectrum, providing floor-filling tech to the more recognizable hits.
INFLUENCES:
House: From banging electro of Fedde Le Grand and the dirty sound of Benny Benassi to sexy vocals of David Guetta and big-room sound of the red hot Deadmau5, these two locals pride themselves on little or no filler tracks, instead focusing on upper-echelon crowd-stomping favorites.
Trance: With popular selections from the likes of Armin van Buuren and his rapidly growing record label Armada, as well as the King of Trance Tiesto, to the darker tech of Sander van Doorn and Richard Durand, there is always something for everyone.
GUIDELINES: It is mandatory that masks are worn as this coincides with the masquerade theme. Basic masks will be available at the door, but it is highly recommended that your bring your own. Creative and original masks will be rewarded with giveaways/prizes.
Also, be sure to get there early so you don't miss your favorite hits like Timberlake remixes, Destination Calabria, FLG and David Guetta hits!
DRESS CODE: Yes. Do your ever-so-pristine city justice and dress to impress.
LIGHTING: Oh yeah! Several lasers and multi-color scanners with fog.
Sponsored by Its Alive A hot new clothing company that is inspired by local talent. They will be releasing their spring line of shirts at the show.

Listen man, it's my first club show, and I am not using them but promoting them...thats kinda how the trance community works. Everybody promoting everbody. It's like, if I spin some Tiesto tracks am I copying Tiesto? No, simply I am promoting his music. When the clubber hears a Tiesto track over the speaker he thinks of Tiesto not the guy spinning the track. Anyway if I type 'Phantom of Electro' and thats it people dont really know whats all involved. This way I am giving people the correct info and whats to be expected, just because I happen to spin the popular atrist dont make it wrong, its giving the people what they really want at a fraction of the cost of an AvB or Tiesto show or anyone else for that matter, and I'm just as good, so put that in your pipe and smoke it!
Oh yeah BTW, its not just mau5er or AvB, if ya read the description its a bit of everything from banging electro to trance. Come on guys do a little research before ya slam it, I guess it just shows your level of intelingence. But even if you think you are intelligent, which ya probably do, then how would attract attention to it? Cause I know for sure you wouldn't have clicked on a show simply advertised as Phantom of Electro.
LOL, the guy that says he is a tranceaddict but doesnt think AvB is inticing, the #1 DJ in the world isn't inticing? Give your head a shake and go shovel your driveway saskatchewan. - Out
Needless Criticism
Look, I don't know what it is with people on the net... this site is specifically for 'trance addicts' as the url denotes. So why attack someone promoting an event for, what in Canada, is an up and coming genre? If I saw a posting for an event that had "house and trance", I'd think it looked a little interesting. If I saw the artists that the performing DJ likes/will be playing, I would think to myself "hmm, this guy knows what he's talking about, he's not in it just because, he's in it because he likes the music and knows his stuff". Obviously if you're members of this site you know who Sander van Doorn, Armin van Buuren and so on are... so I would think that seeing their names in a posting for an event would pretty effectively outline the style that that event will be following. Instead, you instantly call foul on someone trying to describe their event in the best way (I believe) possible. How else could you describe the mood of the evening? You could certainly say house, hard house, psy trance or whatever, but if you've had experience in going to shows like that you know that you can be very dissapointed more often than not. There are plenty of people who play what they think is good trance, but turns out to be hard house instead because they have no idea what they're talking about. So again I say, and thanks to the poster of this event, that in thise case I know pretty much exactly what to expect because I know and respect all the artists listed as stylistic motivation for the event.

most people already know what house and trance are you dont need to use other djs names in promoting your party unless there going to be there, thats just foolish

Clearly you didn't read my post thoroughly enough, and the needless insult I'm afraid only diminishes the validity of your statement. I clearly said that many events claim to play trance and house, and yet they fail to do so in their own ignorance. Posting specific DJ names makes it possible for you to: A: look them up to hear some of their music so you can go prepared, and B: know what to expect and understand that the performing DJ knows what he's doing
all i was commenting about is the lame attempt to promote your event by putting all those big names in the title to attract attention. nothing wrong with promoting it.. just.. take those names out..
"come to this event.. we spin music from artists like this this this and this..!!"
that's what i find "lame"
Feb 15 - PHANTOM OF ELECTRO w/ DJ bla bla and bla bla @ bla bla club
this would be a decent title but
FEB 15 - Phantom of electro.. we play music like bla bla and bla bla mixed with trance.. WOOO! ..... is not great.. at least this is what i understood when i read your title (and to be honest i went inside the thread cause i saw those big names and i was like.. "WTF")
but yea.. i'm the "hater" plus the few 2-3 other people... ignore us since our opinions don't really matter
Ktracid as in Kai Tracid the german trance producer? Man I miss those days he was sick!
Anyway the day after my post I got to thinking...maybe I responded a little to frank (couple extra beers) but hey like I said it's my first club show and I'm new at this stuff. But put yourself in my shoes...I've invested like 10 grr in DJ equip and legal music and all I wanna do now is get efin paid. Besides I've been doing free shows for like a year + now and I just wanted to get the best chance to get some dough. But in saying that it's not all about the money to me, in fact I'm investing in extra club lighting/lasers just for the clubbers to have a decent light show at cheap cost. So with that being said... lets call it a rookie mistake, and in the end I dont wanna fight over trance/house music, cause thats not what its all about...its about love and entertaining and damn good times. But sask I still cant believe you knock AvB and mau5er they are the hottest stuff right now, answer for yourself man... Peace - Out

Actually your very very wrong. House and especially tance are so diverse you dont really know what your gonna get. I've been to show that say they are trance but infact were psy trance (140+ BMP)which is crap and not mainstream trance at all. Furthermore, to add to my point of false promoting, AvB came last year and his show was stongly promoted as Armin van Buuren 10 YEARS TOUR. So all of us AvB guppies were like 10 years tour? Sweet he gonna play like classics and lots of AvB productions mixed with new ASOT, kinda like Tiesto in concert - all his productions and epics. We were wrong and it was exacly the opposite, I still enjoyed the show but it was marketed wrong and a bit taken back, but whatever, I says to myself if and when I do my show I will give the best accurate description I could. And in my title I didn't say they (mau5, Fedde ect.) were coming I said the styles of... (paraphrase). Oh yeah WTF is with the tool crap. That guy seems pretty damn intelligent to me, just look at his writing skill and multipul points... but they say it takes one to know one so...
A lot of DJs play other producers/DJs songs. You promote their work, yes, but you should change how you advertise to say you play their tracks, or that you play a similar style of DJing to them. To say you play their styles, and then attempt to promote that you DJ in a style unlike anyone else and are playing an 'upcoming' style of DJing/music is a bit cyclical.
Btw, house and trance in the same hour is not unheard of, nor is it unheard of for DJs to play various genres that most don't consider should be under the same roof, and that's fine (ie themed events/nights). I, for one, have been mixing everything from electro/house to uplifting trance for two years. To say it's upcoming and unheard of is a bit of a stretch. Promoting that you mesh styles every track (ie bootlegs, live bootlegging, etc) is something worthwhile promoting, as long as it works (I bootleg a fair bit compared to the overall atypical DJ performance, and I know for a fact 90% of what you bootleg on the first try won't work, but props if you've got that gene).
I for one, think attacking new comers is poor attitude. How do we encourage more people to join this community if the community is so critical of 'scene rules' and 'scene regulations' and what is inappropriate and what is appropriate. There is no code written in stone. Be forgiving and try to make suggestions or bring others up to speed in a benevolent manner. That's what's wrong with this community. A new comer joins the room and immediately gets shunned, you make us look like elitests, and that makes us no better than the people we bitch about.
TAers get your act together, and new guys, welcome to the scene and try to be more thoughtful on how you promote yourselves, but by all means do so. It's a very tough city to crack into, since you apparently have to kiss ass around here just to get booked, let alone given an opportunity to shine (hence why so many of our talented DJs leave the city just to get bookings, ie Danny, ie Kevin Shiu [who came back], ie Mirka, etc).

Ya man I think I have been misunderstood. I actually dont pretend to think I am playing some new kind of style, sorry if it came across as that. All I'm try to say is I spin quality tracks and I'm an up and coming DJ, which is so damn true not that I spin a new style or whatever. So somehow it got misunderstood. But your right its like pulling teeth to get somewhere in this city. We really got no trance market and I have to spin mostly house (then progress to trance) just to get people in the club. Anyway you seem to know what your talking about and I respect your advice and points. Later-Out
Hi new guys.
What the people meant to say was that it is unconventional to advertise headliners in your thread title, and may be inappropriate. Check out the format of other threads, especially ones by established production companies throwing shows without headliners.
However, good job on using this unconventional tactic to grab our attention.
Alrite sorry for coming across as rude, but I'm actually a really mellow person. So first, I won't comment on the thread title as others have already, you get the point. Second, I have been very into Trance for the past 6 years or so, and yes coming from Sask that meant being the only person I personally knew who liked any EDM at all for a long time.
I guess my point was that Deadmau5 and Armin Van Buuren are so big right now that anyone whose been into EDM for a week could start name dropping the big shots and claim they love Trance music, and that doesn't convince me you've done any actual research to play original or atleast non "trance top 40" music. If you want to be a trance top 40 DJ and copy Tiesto and Armin's playlists, that's fine, that's your choice, but that's not very enticing to me like I said, as in I don't want to be able to predict your tracklist before even seeing you. Just because I like trance doesn't mean that I'm going to like all the big name's music, a lot of who have been producing pretty shitty the last while.
Finally, I quite respect your effort and passion as a beginning DJ, and as one who wishes he had gotten into DJing long ago perhaps even a little jealousy. Yes, I would've clicked on the topic if you didn't put all those names in there. I read every topic to see what is going on. Remember I come from a place where the EDM scene is almost non-existent. I enjoy going out and supporting small events and meeting others who share the similar interest. Also I live in Whistler now. I'm gonna head into Van soon for perhaps the Pink party coming up.
Edit: After reading your original post all the way through this is what I meant about the predicing your tracklist bit:
"Also, be sure to get there early so you don't miss your favorite hits like Timberlake remixes, Destination Calabria, FLG and David Guetta hits!"
If your passionate about music then let people come to hear your music, rather than trying to pull then in with old overplayed tunes.
well as long as we now all have the etiquette of how to properly post a thread lets get down to business. phantom of electro is going to be a very good show as i do know techja and robinski to be very good dj's. i do believe they are just as good as any dj out there and i cant wait for these 2 to put on many more shows to come. so if you have the balls and live in vancouver i dare you to show up to phantom of the electro and be blown away with what they have to offer.
till then
hmm...i have a lot to say about this thread. but i'll just comment on 1 thing, which i've read thus far, (which doesn't have anything to do w/ the thread itself, but rather is a side issue, which someone addressed, to make things simpler
):

)! i've said it once, & i'll say it again: each & every one of you make these nights even better! i've only been going to these nights since late '06, but i've had more fun since that time than i've had in my whole entire life! (...& i give a big "LOL" @ all of the ravers, who think i'm a god-damn undercover!
)
but i'm not gunna put that down. it's still a neat concept.
however, unfortunately, i'm already going to something else, (cedric gervais,) which i planned for myself weeks ago. =/ have a blast for me, though!

Heya all! So I've been reading this thread the past couple days and I guess I should post seeing as I'm the other half of this party.
For me music is the first important thing here, so while I agree the thread title shouldn't have big names, we're really just trying to paint a clear picture. I spend most of my life around music and especially with EDM its very uplifting to people. It brings people together.
The second important thing is having a rowdy fuckin' show. I mean every show I'm going to there's some people going nuts and a whole lot of people just chillin. I'm trying to market EDM for what it is: Dance music. I just wanna make you dance.
So really this is about people getting together to have a good time listening to what I feel is the best music around. See ya Friday.
PM me for tix.
Oh yeah. I just posted a four track set we put out as a teaser so you can actually hear our mixing and a few tracks we're gonna be playing.

Alrite, so that other poster wasn't you... fair enuf... regardless even if it was your friend it was an odd way, I thought for him to promote his friends.
Quoted:I pride myself on being a DJ for the people, as they are my clients and I serve them. If they want to hear the house hits then so be it. Personally I like more of the NOT WELL KNOWN trance songs (which to me are my "top 40")but there is no market for that, and it can only be intuitively faded into a set instead of dominating the set.
Good reply. DJs are for there for the people. Sometime it seems to me like DJs are only there for themselves and playing what they want. And even when it is completely obvious that they are losing the crowd they are still unwilling to compromise. Good DJs should play different types of sets depending on the crowd the are facing which you aluded to.
Quoted: Like I have said before I love trance, I am a trance DJ by passion, but the market condradicts my passion. So instead of quiting or completely selling out to house I have collaborated styles. I give them what they want and throw in my passion for trance/tech trance here and there, but I dont completley force it on them. I read their response through body language and I learn from that for upcoming events.
Again good reply. I guess the only thing I can say then is that you should try and attract the type of people who will enjoy the music you enjoy, then you can be less compromising with the popular house tunes you must play. If you advertise those types of tunes, that's the kind of people you will attract.
Anyways enuf this... good luck with your night dude.
| quote: |
| RESPONSE - can I be honest here? I agree with the fact they are overplayed, I sure think so, but my research has shown that it was highly requested those tunes be played. Do I like JT? No not really. The FLG classics? Yeah, I'm getting tired of them aswell, but I had to realize its not about what I want to hear its what the majority of my clients want, and they get want the want, because not everybody serves them them like they should be served.... I give them what they want and throw in my passion for trance/tech trance here and there, but I dont completley force it on them. I read their response through body language and I learn from that for upcoming events. What else can I do, honestly? |
).
this is getting funnier by the minute
5? I gotta say I couldn't. But maybe a few like lets see, The Ambush for sure with Everlast and Acapulco (my fav Oliver Lieb tracks), obviously LSG (like Netherworld) and he has some minmal/techy stuff under Solieb. But thats it, if you give me 5 minutes I could name all 5 but thats pretty tricky off the top of my head - not a big Oliver Lieb fan but I remember some stuff off of older compilations and what not.
Yeah nice one though, really caught me off guard with the classic trivia.
I'm just a bit miffed about the no filler tracks statement. As a guy who plays only filler tracks, I want to know when the appropriate time is to go to the bar to doublefist some drinks?
