Pay attention to this chick...lol...

Yeah I've "solo-ed" with orchestras, won my share of competitions, and performed in numerous recitals; but it still seems like no one pays any attention to my instrument when a face isn't behind it. It's incredibly depressing that ppl continue to attribute the cello to classical music, and fail to remember its presence in other genres as well. Pray tell me, how the hell am I supposed to market/promote myself??? I want to find a home as a cellist in the electronic circuit...but it seems to be dead!!!! Do any of you even know what I play?

This is my sh*tty-ass website...complete with useless pics:

I used to play the cello. I sucked. Assuming you have talent, design some music that you like and enjoy rather than trying to cater to an audience. Play classical cello, or learn to spin some of your own beats and do some whacky cello trance. Whatever you enjoy. If you do it just to cater to an audience, you're not a musician, you're just a marketer who sells some chick playing the cello, that chick being you.

[FYI: Edited to reference a chick instead of guy since I was a fucktard who did not read the title of the thread apparently]

more pics with your cans out would probably help your "exposure".

I don't see a picture of her cello, nor of her playing the cello. Just some picture of her giving me the finger which I take very personally.

She probably doesn't even play the cello. What a phony.

Hey I'm no guy
But, regardless of your mean statement I do play what I enjoy, and yes I spin beats when I'm not practicing....that being whatever the hell I feel like playing at the time, and it's not helping me earn any money! I mean I'm basically broke and wishing I could play electric or acoustic cello in clubs or perhaps be sampled instead of a synth in a song. It seems like no one needs "real" instruments anymore...we've basically been electroncsized...

Ummm add me to your facebook...theres vids of me playing the cello. This is hilarious...you think I can't play

you dont make money by playing, you make money by writing.

(and getting your cans out).

Obviousely, by rambling endlessly and spamming internet forums with shitty pointless threads like this one, all while reminding us constantly that - hihi, you're a girl - hoping to get the attention of a bunch of horny internet nerds. After all, it's what all credible musicians do.

What about Apocalyptica?

You could find something equally as creative, but electronic. You mentioned the cello being present in other genres, but since there isn't a memorable presence, would you give some examples?

All I can think of are still mostly acoustic but not necessarily orchestral, with maybe the exception of Apocalyptica. Ken Oak Band does use some guitar effects, but is still mostly identifiable as cello.

Maybe some of the issue stems from other instruments such as violins overshadowing the cello. I know right now I can list more violinists than I can cellists (but that could also be because I have played violin). Also, the normal range of the cello may not lend itself well to some genres of music. Just a thought.

Are you a musician? You need to begin somewhere...I could care less who objectifies me, as for in one and every 10 of so-called "internet nerds" you can truly find yourself someone genuine. This someone can genuinely offer you a little advice or assistance--or just make you smile.
