What is usually the songwriting process for Trance/electronica?
Does it just "flow as it goes" or does it take time like writing a rock song?

Well, a lot of the so called minimal, electro and "tech-house" artists nowadays have it made. All they have to do is get on fruity loops, make a bunch of dings, dangs, bleeps bloops and burps (it doesn't really matter where the song is going) and some moron out there is going to like it.
At least it's a good way to make some extra cash if you need it.
I would say that getting on your way to making a "quality" production requires some experimenting until you develop a niche for what you're after - it doesn't just happen overnight. Don't think you need to meet a specific formula. Get inspired by a variety of different sounds and genres and incorporate them into what you're doing as you see fit. That's what made a lot of the older trance tracks so good, was the fact that they didn't follow so many predictable rules that we have today for the different styles.
And if you find that you're lacking a little money, produce a little cheese and maybe it'll go over. Nothing wrong with enjoying a nice cheesy tune ever once in a while.
It's like defacating. Sometimes you have to push really hard to get anything out. Sometimes it won't come out at all, and it puts you in a bad mood. Sometimes it functions like it's supposed to, and you take it for granted. Sometimes, though, the shit just keeps on coming and gets everywhere.
Suffice to say, it can be hard to tell the difference between diarrhea and production with some producers.

reflect on how life is great while high.

kick, snare roll, breakdown, build up, rinse repeat

There are many ways to start a song.
As for the length, the time it takes to write a song varies. Sometimes it can take from minutes to years.

Oh, and the songwriting process for dance music is usually something like "Hit keys and twiddle with knobs and envelopes at random until something sounds neat. Elaborate from there."
