Record to PC from DJ Setup
Heyaa everyone!
Well I finally got a setup, not massive but pretty fucken alright.
2 CDJ-400's and a DJM-400...hehe. Very simple!
Moving along, what are some effective connections from my Setup to PC that I use for recording mixes?
A guy at DJ City in Dandenong explained Plug-N-Play which seemed decent? Any others?
Thanks a bunch TA's!!!
i'm also interested in this discussion..
secondly: ooooooohh, how are the 400's?

if u just have an onboard soundcard, u will probably have a line in in the form of a small stereo jack input. so:
get rca -> stereo jack cable, plug the rca into your mixers record out or the 2nd master output, the jack into the pc, use audacity to record. done
or get a good sound card, and buy the appropriate cable that the soundcard requires to achieve the same thing.

how much would an average sound card cost steve? and do you guys sell em?
Do you have a laptop or a desktop?
You can probably get something for around about $100-$200. Its only worth it if your current onboard sound card sounds like crap.
Just dont get the behringer audio interfaces, iv warned people before, they chose to ignore me then later on the come back crying because it sounds like complete ass.
I use Audacity for the software, its pretty simple (even I can use it with no probs).
As a soundcard I can recommend the Xitel InPort USB. Its a dedicated recording soundcard, its an rca at the mixer end and USB at the computer end, plug in and away you go, comes with about a mile of pretty good quality rca cable too. Easy as, I'm more than happy with sound quality (check out my mix in the DJ promo thread, thats with old-ish needles and a PCV-275 mixer and it still sounds sweet). Costs about 120-150 or so so its pretty affordable too.
Its about the size of a pack of cards too so its easy to carry if you want to take it somewhere else.
By the looks of it it now comes with recording software too as well as being able to use it with other software.
I have the previous version of it, heres the new version

its not rocket science man, i said the same principles apply. making mixtapes when you were a kid to recording on the comp is a fairly linear process.

Thanks a bunch for the replies
Where can I get Audacity from?
I do have a soundcard: Audigy 2 ZS. Would that allow me to record for now?. I see on the back of the soundbox, it has two inputs, for RCA's?.

would depend on how serious u wanna get with it all as to how much u wanna spend etc etc.
Steve man, would you be able to provide a link to the jack? I'm pretty new at this and don't know what it is? I know RCA's but what kind of cables are you talking about? On my soundcard box, it only shows a Red/White and Digital out, no little input for a jack??? And on the front it has a Line In 1 and 2 and Headphones?

do i need the larger headphone bit?
here's my setup dan
i have the red and white rca inputs of my external sound card hooked up to the red and white rca's the booth output from my mixer (so i can control how loud the channel is independantly).
the sound card is plugged into the lappies usb.
i'm using adobe audition, so i start a new session and when play choons i can see the signal coming through on the lappie. adjust the booth so that it's not peaking too hard like have of your munters on a weekend.
hit record..
booyakasha!!

just tryiong to find a more detailed pic of your card.
typically you will need those line in.
basically see RCA and Red being Right and White Being left. and on your soundcard, your input 1 is left, and input 2 is right. so get the necessary cable to plug from your mixer into the card.
Shit I just press 'record' on my tape deck!

to get it into the computer, the sound card should have a usb output, to slam straight into your pc.
