Moral Dillemma..

Right.

I was part of a committee formed by my company late last year to organise some dinner event for the company. I was pretty much a key man in the project and was handling the cash.

We were giving an X amount of funds to spend. So as we're doing our spending, turns out we did not have enough money to spend on. So we decided to ask for donations from the people upstairs to provide us with some more dope and they donated about $1000 for other shit.

As time went by, my company realised that there was some more cash available to be spent and they gave us more money which basically means we dont need the $1000.


So, the event came and went without that 1000 bucks being spent.This was early this year. My fellow committee members think we've spent that cash and the people upstairs probably FORGOTTEN about the cash they donated.

So should I keep the money or not? I really want to give the money back to the bosses in case I get screwed in the future.And yeah morally its wrong.

I'm not superstitious..but as i grow older..I realised this karma thing might have some sense after all.

Not only will you be doing the right thing morally, you'll be making yourself look good because everyone will know you could have stolen the cash had you wanted to.

Return 500$! So you'll have the best of both sides.

Return the cash = You looking good + Possible Promotion = MORE CASH!

Problem solved!

Edit: Plus, there's no chance to get caught. With half the money returned no one will even think that there's something missing.

I also agree with returning only 500$

The bosses would then ask how the committee members about how much money did they actually need last time and if i returned half the dope..that would certainly backfire.

And..I'm quitting my job come may/june. So promotion/sucking up doesnt matter to me.

maybe do some kind of company party? or bbq or something to give back to the co-workers for free

Sounds like your career is worth more than $1000.

if you give it back now you'll merely be revealing your indecisiveness.

Depends really on what your bosses are like. If there someone is overly inquisitive and shrewd when it comes to money then I wouldn't even bother.

They will find out. Companies do not forget about these things. If you are the organizer, they will ask for a receipt/invoice, no? What if they are audited?

Truth - audits account for every cent and when there is money missing lots of questions are asked.

Honesty is always the best policy - not for honesty's sake, alone, but for the fact that you will get caught and fucked over, especially anymore since accounting is all kept in order by a computer system, most likely. Unless you work in some Mom & Pop General Store in rural Bumfuckia, you are going to be caught.

My morals tell me you should return it, and that's what I would probably do as well.

My experience tells me that returning it or not will make no difference, your good deed will not be noticed or cared for, and you'll probably end up losing your job in a month. It happened to me a million times before.

pretend you forgot about it too THEN return it. your job and reputation are worth more than $1000.

Are you out of your mind? Give the money back asap, what the fuck would make you think of keeping it? If they do an audit and I'm sure they will , you're fucked. If they want to they will not only fire you, but you might get sued or it might go on your record. I've worked for 5 different companies/corporations since I was 18 and I never once left any of them on bad terms and built up my good name so I have something impressive on my resume just in case there are unfortunate cutbacks or layoffs. If you decide to return it, I'm sure they're going to ask you why you hesitated and this is the time where you pick up a pen and paper, and before you start thinking of a good explanation, I think you should run into a wall head first.
