WHAT?

Are you sure you were at the right place? RITM was the most unboring live performance I have ever witnessed!

phenomenal indeed! good thing i wasn't high when they were on

Got to the club at 12ish and there was no line, just a very thorough shakedown (thought the chick was gonna pull out a rubber glove, jeez)

Took me a while to get into the music especially because i'm not a huge D&B or breaks fan. Rabbit in the Moon as mentioned, was insane(anyone have vids?). Jelo killed it too, probably the best set i've heard from him. Should've looked at the set times because i wanted to check NuEra and Lori HiFi.

Good to party with the London crew, Supastah and Lopi it's been to long since we've ripped it up!

It's always nice to goto a club with fellow parties who are there to party! wicked vibe all night.

Sober or not, this looks like anything but boring.

I agree with you that the music wasn't perfectly consistent at all times, but whatever. The performance was phenominal.

I still have to write my review and finish uploading videos.

WHAT THE FUCK?!?! That looks scary!!!

Posted by E2EK1EL on Feb-11-2008 08:56:

too bad I couldn't make it out to see this ....

I saw them at Freakin' 99, I was a bit too high to understand wtf he was doing.

looked like one amazing LIVE PA again by RITM.

Exactly what I was going to say.

Rabbit in the Moon is more a show then it is a DJ set....just like Daft Punk....I could see how somebody would find it boring if they didn't expect to see a show.

Nah, trust, it's even BETTER. (I've seen him in both botch and clear states of mind)

First time I saw RITM live was at WEMF05, and I was rocked on a couple things (shrooms & pills) and WOW THAT WAS THE CRAZIEST THING id ever seen in my life. Being on that just made it even more trippy and incredibly and mindblowing! Experience of a lifetime! I was in shock and awe from the whole thing!!!

This time saw him sober (well, mostly sober. . . no chems at all, and i stopped drinking at superstar's house by 11pm, and didnt buy 1 drink at the Docks/Soudn Emporium, so my buzz was gone and completely depleted by 2am, and RITM came on at 230am)

Seeing him sober was incredble too!

WOW. Not nearly the same as when I was rocked, but incredible still nonetheless. this time, i could appreciate WHAT he was actually doing and how impressive it was that he'd attempt some of the random things he was doing (ie. going into a HUGE inflated see-thru ball and then crowd surfing in it!~?!?!?!!!! WOW! Bonkers! And besides that having to be difficult in and of itself, just imagine if it (ie. him in the ball) falls down from teh crowd's hands to the ground (which isnt that crazy of a chance if you ask me when ur being 'floated' long by mashed out ravers lol). BAM! There goes a lot of the momentum from his set. It would just be disappointing. . .

He must be somewhat aware of how such (entirely possible) occurances could weigh into his performance. . .

And P.S. Bought a Rabbit in the Moon t-shirt!! So glad I did that. I now have a shirt to remember this by! Awesome.

For once I have to disagree with you buddy RITM has too be by far the worst thing I have ever witnessed in my life (WEMF05). I will admit that visually it is interesting and unique, but musically it is the worst garbage I have ever endured. I have never walked out a show in so much disgust and pain form my ears bleeding. I honestly left and sat in the DnB and happy hardcore room's till they were done and that's painful for a house head. I think one would have to be heavily sedated on hallucinogenic drugs to enjoy their show.

I have NO DOUBT that that would add to it INCREDIBLY; and YES I enjoyed their show BY FAR MORE back at WEMF 05 when I was rocked on (IMO) the two best substances to be rocked on to see them!

But I enjoyed their performance this time around too quite a bit. Found it highly interesting, and so different from any other experience. I was having a blast the entire time they were on!!

I didnt dislike the music, but yea, it wasnt my usual cup of tea, music that id normally listen to. then again, i wasnt going to them for the music. but i have to say it certainly wasnt "worst garbage I have ever endured" though. not even close.

when seeing them, one needs to keep in mind IMO that they are a show (the LIVE sets anyways. . . they also do DJ sets which are AFAIK are a different, and just like any other DJ set you see from a regular DJ) that uses electronic music to add to the SHOW's vibe and feel.

They are meant, when done live, to be a show w/ electronic music. Not a musicl LIVE PA experience w/ a crazy show.

The show is before the music. I think thats clear, generally. Non?

Posted by samhouse on Feb-11-2008 17:11:

i was at wemf 05 but was too exhausted after jelo and glaude so i headed to the tent for a break. Missed the entire show..heard some whacked out reviews, didn't believe a word. Then finally saw the WMC video from a few years ago or something and it was their performance of "The Eye" from Ultra Fest.

while not something I would pay to see live, it was certainly one of the most visually entertaining shows I've ever seen. Damned glad I didn't see them at WEMF 05 in the state of mind i was probably in as it woulda probably resulted in weeks of rehab and sleepless nights.

Well I guess its time for a review.

I haven't been to a DnB event in over 5 years, and I can't remember the last time I went to an all ages event. I must say, the crowd was so different from what I am used to. So many kids from out of town. So many country guys coming down and just wanting to rock out to some DnB or jungle. The crowd had their good points and bad. For the most part it seemed like everybody was excited to be there, and wanted to have fun. My only problem is that there wasn't really a consistent groove, or atmosphere which threw off my vibe.

Now for the music.

LTJ Bukem was exactly what I was expecting. Simple, smooth, relaxing, with hints of energy and madness. He plays slower DnB which I am happy about because it took me a good 30min to get my feet under me. I forgot how hard it was to dance to that stuff! MC Conrad was a lot better live than I expected. He wasn't overbearing and knew when to just chill and let LTJ do the work. IMO a fantastic team, and I can see why they have been working together for so long. My fav song of the night was either the 3rd or 2nd last song; Conrad yelled out "Original LTJ...Future remix!". Don't know what it was, but its still stuck in my head.

Black Sun Empire was FANTASTIC! I had never heard their stuff before, but as soon as they got on, they had me. Definitely more edgy than LTJ, but still had enough melody, and energy for me to get involved. Dancing to them was much easier because they took the energy level through the roof. The crowd really started to form near the beginning of their performance. I would definitely see them again.

I heard just the end of Lori the High-hi Princess, which I am sad about. I thought she had a pretty cool sound, that I would like to hear more off. Very trippy, with sounds just bouncing off the walls, and making you bounce along with them.

Now Rabbit in the Moon. A set marred by inconsistent flow. The show was great. The big room, big beat sound was great. But, I found that they never went in one direction long enough for me to get into it. Maybe thats the way the crowd liked it, because they were eating it up. For me, every time I started enjoying a melody and sample, he switched it up and went in a different direction. Again I liked the sound, just not the flow.

All in all an interesting and fun experience. I must say, the decor was a bit simple (for todays standards). The upstairs 19+ area had a few lights and thats pretty much it. The main room had huge screens and TVs, but they were only used for Rabbit. I would have liked them to use them all night, even if the visuals would have been simple. Simply displaying the Destiny logo wasn't enough.

Worst coat check ever. Sure it was in a nice open place, but upstairs and the only way to get to it was to go outside? Trying to check my coat then go to the main room was brutal for somebody with short sleeves, let alone a short skirt. WTF is up with all the bank machines being broken? I was trapped because I was out of money and had no way of getting more to take a cab back to union. After bothering NuEra some, and then convincing a cabbie to take me, I was on my way home. The docks are too far when you don't have a car, oh well, that was their last 'rave' event.

Funniest thing for me all night was how everybody was calling it a rave. From the security guard outside, to the MC's, to the fans. Not sure if it was a rave, but hey, at least people were out there to have fun, listen to music and dance. Thats enough PLUR for any event.

HAHA I feel like im trying to convince everyone that your "state of mind" such as it would have been would only have made the whole performance EVEN BETTER.

Honestly, like I was trippin on shrooms, so if any substance was going to put their performance over-the-top and likley cause anyone to freak out and have a near-heart attack, im sure that shrooms would top the list!! (and anyone thats been around me partying when ive had the fortune to be on shrooms, they know that i do massive quanities too... ... so its not like im saying i was only on a gram and I was ok. More likely i was on 5 or 6 grams, and i only loveed the show even MORE!

Perf substance for RITM!

I didn't expect it to be a show, and I found it to be the opposite of boring. I can get DJ sets every weekend, and hell, every day when I wanna listen to one at home. This kind of a performance is one of a kind.

hey don't get me wrong...I love Rabbit in the Moon....but for some people....when they go to a club to see a DJ they expect a DJ...when given something else they become very bored and annoyed that it wasn't what they wanted. I think Rabbit in the Moon puts on a great show.....not my fav music but you don't see Rabbit in the Moon for the music.

It was hilarious watching the lead performer from RITM go crowd surfing. The security guards saw it coming, got into position, and as soon as the guy was on top of the crowd, the security guards jumped to the front of the stage, pulled him back and then got out of sight again. Fast and professional!

I actively remarked on that too, each and every time it happened. LOL, i guess just twice then!

I still cant believe he decided to do it, AND PULLED IT OFF SUCESSFULLY (lol) while stuck in the great big ball!! hahaha

id be thinking if that were me that itd be too "iffy" or "risky" lol

That's the fault of the clubber, they should have some research before they enter the venue. It's the same when DJ's 'evolve' from genre's... some people still think Sasha & Digweed play Progressive Trance from 1997 and then ask why there was tech house all night.
