help - this weekend - restaurants & stuff to do?

hey guys and gals, this weekend my BF and I are coming to Montreal for 2 nights (Sat and Sun). We don't want to do any clubbing (I'll be back Feb 29 for that ) but would like to have a nice dinner out on Saturday night. Can anyone recommend a somewhat upscale, trendy restaurant that is fairly easy to get to (we're staying in old montreal), doesn't have too heavy of a menu and plays good music?

I haven't been out for dinner in Montreal in quite awhile - I remember St Laurent strip being excellent but I would prefer to decide in advance and make reservations instead of just walking along the street.

Lastly, is there anything else of interest going on in Mtl this weekend?? If it's not too cold, we'll probably go skating at Place D'Armes...there is an ice bar there, right?

Thanks!

If you go to Vauvert, food is very good, music is house and very appropriate and its in Old Montreal

Its St Paul Hotel's restaurant

www.vauvert.ca

If douy ont care about music and youre looking for a restaurant that is in my opinion one of the best i've ever been

Go to "Club Chasse et Peche"

Its also in Old montreal and the food is AMAZING

Not that expensive for what you get

Try the risotto, i almost fell off my chair

http://www.leclubchasseetpeche.com/

Music is background music, very intimate, warm place

You love it

Club chasse et peche is by far the best and most enjoyable meal I ever had in montreal
I work in a restaurant and even my boss and the chef said its their favorite restaurant in montreal

thats funny because when i went two weeks ago, Normand Laprise and Martin Picard from Pied de cochon were having a meal. Picard was his usual self, lumberjack shirt with his chest hair coming out. He was talking really loud and now everyone knows he just went on a diet.

lol. that night wasnt too upclass.

the waiter was though.

you guys like to be steal proper.
I agry it's good food...but WAY too expensive for what you got in your plate srly.

Both place have nice chef, I'll never bash on them for sure, espicially Claude Pelletier who did a great job all the time in creation and innovation using Quebec product. But if you want Kobe beef at 18$/oz, go there

for myself I recommended 3 places

1. Bleu Raisin, nice little high-class bistro, bring your wine, you need a reservation for sure 514.271.2333
+/- 100+tx+service

2.Bronte, prob the best italian/mediteranean restaurant right now in mtl, bit expensive, but worst it
+/- 200+tx+service

3.Ora, on st-Jacques just next to tribe hyperclub, chef is friend of mine, great job also there and music is cool ambient
150+tx+service

have a nice trip

Vauvert is doing an anti-valentine evenings on the 14th and 15th... might not be the best place for romantic suppers hehehe

Ora is...yewwwww
the main courses are so bad and the sizes are so small haha
same thing for the waitresses, so bad that it's practically the busboy that takes your order
you get robbed 10x more there than at club chasse et peche wow
come on Greg lol we are not talking about the same quality of food and service AT ALL

Posted by Allied Nations on Feb-14-2008 14:49:

maher's taking me there tonight before the show

...

If you want sushi, go to Ginger (St laurent and pine avenue) exact address is 16 pine avenue...really yummy stuff there and if u don't like sushi, they have an insane menu of pad thais, teriyaki and tetaki dishes etc...nice japanese cuisine.

the spring rolls + seafood soup are soooooooooooo good to start

Ora = worst resto i've been to, hands down.

so we get there on time, are seated right away, but are not given any menus. we're given a wine list though. there's a sheet of paper with 5 courses written down and a small 45$ at the bottom of this paper. alright...i look through it, nothing really catches my eye. so maher asks our "waitress" (i don't know how much actual serving she did but anyway)...he asks her for the regular ora menu. she says flatly, no, we only have this set menu tonite for V-day. right away, i think that's poorly thought out. i had a choice of veal, beef or fish for my main course, none of which i wanted. and most of the other 4 courses tasted like vinegar and salt.

alright alright so i understand it's V-day and sometimes restos put into place set menus for busier nights such as that. okay! but why the hell 1) are we refused to have the regular menu WHEN IT'S CLEARLY REQUESTED and 2) are there at least 10 other people in that place reading and ordering off THE REGULAR MENU?!?!?!?!?! you're paying 200$ easily and i don't even have a choice? huh?!

anyways, i was still hungry after lol

Erika,

Sad you had a bad experience, last time I was there in december was pretty good actually. We had great meal and great time. I'm a cook I will never recommended a place that suck...srly

Maybe the chef (Nassim) was there quit...it happen frequently in the industry. One you go it's good, 2 mouth later it's shit. I was supposed to work for them, never happen...kind of happy when reading you review
