Résumé advice.

Basically I'm looking more for examples than advice - I'm hoping to apply for a few teaching jobs in the coming weeks/months, and need to finish my résumé sometime in the next two to three weeks in order to apply for a couple different graduate opportunities by their deadlines (one of which is getting paid to study in India for 8 weeks - something I'd very much like to spend my fall doing).

Effectively I'm just looking for any good resources you all have for creating a professional résumé, or if any of you would be willing to let me have a look at your own résumé as an example I would really appreciate it as well.

And thanks loads to those of you willing to entertain the notion - I'm absolutely terrified because this is the first time I've ever even had to consider the notion of creating a résumé.

Resumes should look different depending on the job you're looking for Sam my boy. A teacher's resume would look vastly different than that of someone looking for a tech position.

you should write lots of resumes and custom-build them according to the position.

for something like teaching, a government job (?) i wouldve thought there'd be stuff like selection criteria rather than it all depending on the resume. good luck.

I should have added, and some jobs (working at a deli) don't require a resume at all

i remember monster.com having some pretty solid resume advice. i could list my pointers, but i doubt most of them would be relevant for a teaching position. Some wisdom i can share is that you should definitely use 'action' words in the resume describing what you can do for them. A resume isn't a way to show off, it's a way to show how you fit that job. tailor that shit exactly for the job. for teaching you should probably use words like communicate, instruct, develop, foster, etc... to describe things you've done.

So right. The resume I have for the private sector is 2 pages (one with my crap and one with references). The latest one (that would have done Rob no good) is for the Gov't and is over 10 pages long. Many KSA's were addressed and formatting was as required.

Thanks for all the input guys - I do realize that I need to tailor each resume to the position it's intended, but I guess I just wanted ideas of where to start.

I'm basically trying to get my personalized "template" (so to speak) resume finished so I can have the necessary information ready to go, and just kind of fill in the subjective "blanks."
