To be honest, it really isn't that big of a story when you break it all down.

It's great, don't get me wrong but at the end of the day everything is still exactly the same as it was a few days ago, just that all the idealists now have a chance to rejoice for no apparent reason for a few days, before everyone returns back to reality.

Perhaps, but I think a lot of indigenous folk acknowledge that it's a positive step. Anything that helps unite the country is worthwhile, imo.

Yeah, I saw that the first compensation claims were made today...I thought everyone just wanted closure *gasp*

wasn't there a mention of not paying compensation in the apology speech? I didn't get to see it all as I was sleeping in at the time. anyway, wasn't the opening to liability and compensation the reason the Howard government didn't do this? not that I'm saying it shouldn't have been done.
