Kosovo declaring independence from Serbia
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7249034.stm
Im curious to see how this will evolve. Serbia is getting smaller again... Kosovo means alot to them, but in Kosovo there are living over 90% Albanian people. Now they have won their war to independence, with support from USA and some EU countries, while other EU countries and Russia are supporting Serbia in this matter.
However it says that Kosovo (Kosova = in albanian) will have limited independence, under international supervision. UN has been there since the NATO bombing of 1999, and are now handing over the administration carefully.
What will this lead to? I understand the serbs argument, this place is a rich historical place for them, with alot of serb-ortodox churches and so on.. but the Albanians have been able to have alot more babies and fill it with their own people. As far as I have understood is that alot of albanian children are tought to hate the serbs by their parents aswell.
This means that albanians in other countries such as Macedonia and Montenegro will come with demands of independence and within 5 years what is now Kosovo will be known as northern Albanina and EU, UN and USA will have helped the albanians achive the same thing that they say they stoped Serbia from doing.
In removing Milosevic they have created new one in Thaci. For everyone who belives in talk of peace comming from a man who started a guerilla and is behind 1000's of murderes are truly nave to belive that there will be anything peacefull comming out of this.
It really does set quite the precedent for the Basques and for the Chechens, and to a non-European degree, Quebec vs. Canada.
Hopefully everyone can just start to get along [/naive]
Check this out. This is how Serbs and Bosnians play football against each other. They chant songs about the "enemy", obviously enemies from the wars of the 1990's. Animosity is still strong, even in football matches...

^ Hells yeah
Ther was a great series on Discovery called "Football Hooligans International" and the Serb / Croat / Kosovar rivalries are insane.
It goes far beyond the sport itself. Sad, really

| Originally posted by Krypton It has everything to do with the ethnic wars of Yugoslavia in the 1990's. Are you THAT dull? Did the Italians and Brits fight a brutal civil in the last 15 years? ..... Didn't think so.... |

Good work in showing your stupidity! And about my comment regarding the italians and the brits; that was conserning their way of acting when it comes to football which is alot worse then what you wanted to show with that video. So yet again, well done in missing the point. |

It was something of interest to be added to the current discussion. I wasn't making a point. The video is great for understanding the tensions present in the former Yugoslavia, even if it doesn't showcase Kosovo!! Which is why I called you dull!! The Serbs have beef with not just Kosovo!! Do you want to understand some of the tensions going on? Watch the damned video, or shut the f8ck up... You really are making a non-issue into an issue. |

| Originally posted by SkooB_E I HAVE seen the video and I HAVE seen what's happening in Kosovo as I have been there many times during the years. And not just in Kosovo but in the most parts of former Yugoslavia. And to think that the video represent all down there just confirms my statement about you. It is NOT like that down there most of those idiots in the video just use nationalism when they in fact don't give a shit about it in reality. I actually know for a fact that people from both sides of those teams supporters went out together partying afterwards. Seriously dude, don't talk about stuff you apparently don't know shit about besides that crap media has shown you. |

Riiiiight.
So, anyone who actually wants to stay on topic and actually know what they are talking about out there?

| YOU may not think it isn't relevant, but I do, and so does pmoisse apparently. Stop playing the forum police, and again... |
This may be a surprise to you, but just because you think it's relevant doesn't mean it actualy is. In this case (that fottball match) the fact is that it is not.

Ok, my opinion, before we had the forum gestapo try to lay down the law....
Kosovo as a 90% majority Albanian, also with a majority wanting independence, has a right to independence. It should be a given to the Serbs that the Kosovans will declare independence and there is no way to stop it. I really hope the transition will be graceful and the Serbs can finally just accept its inevitability...
I already posted about the relevence of that video. As stated earlier:

If the latinos bacame a 90% majority in california and wanted independence from The United STates should they bi given one even if they are a minority in the rest of America? |
