Planning a Greece trip in the summer-any tips?..
Well I googled a bit of information but I would appreciate some TA perspective too, regarding the scene in the greek islands in the summer, for anyone who's been there.
I'm planning an island hopping trip (mykonos, santorini, ios) in either june or july.
does anyone know which would be the best month (s) to go for the best parties? also what spots are good for the music in any of these islands, what to expect in a club there, any outdoor events or parties that I should know about in the summer months, which month is the best in terms of not being unbearably hot etc.
also the typical cost of drinks and club admission etc. how much financial damage should I be bracing myself for since I'll be there for 2 weeks?
I'm trying to estimate that in advance...
any tips, input is appreciated
You should also post this in the Chill Out Room so you can get a bigger perspective from TAs who has been there

My wife and I are planning on being there towards the end of July. Check out Cavo Paradiso on Mykonos. Other than that I don't know shit.

your joking, right?
been a few years, can't think of everything but a few:
1. drive careful, sometimes people tip over on rented scooters and lose some skin and then can't go swimming, the white powder they put on the wounds glows under the clubs black lights etc.
2. digicam: the islands are beautiful, there is plenty of sunlight so pictures come out clear
3. should be plenty of great beaches, avoid the time around noon when the sun is very strong and use plenty of sunscreen even when your not at the beach.
4. the boat trips between islands can be long (athens - santorini can be like 5 hours i think depending on the boat) maybe buy or bring something to lay on and sleep.
5. don't think you can count on much being cheap - to sit at a cafe and drink a coffee and watch the sunset in santorini is probably like $10.
definitely check out crete. i think it has the nicest beaches of any of the islands - not in a party sense, but more for natural beauty. stay on the southern coast for nicer beaches
id recommend 100% to rent a car on one of the islands you go to, maybe on one of the bigger ones (like crete). you can find beaches and cool hidden restaurants and stuff that you would never find otherwise!
and eat, lots! the food in greece is some of the best in the world

how are these ferries, are they accomodating in terms of seats etc, or are they small and crowded typically? might just take a blanket then, thanx for that tip and the others too
I probably won't rent a car since I'm going on one of those international group tours for young folk, so will be going around with the group pretty much. the hotels are pretty much near the beaches, so might just cab it with other people to get around. the santorini sunset is easily worth 10 euros i think, i read that it's more in some places for a great view

the ferries are big, but when i was there they were very crowded as well. Some airline seating inside, some cafe/lounge seating but VERY smoky there, and benches outside. Also there are newer catamerang style boats that are smaller but much faster than the ferries, they cost more, and have indoor only airline seating.
if you were on your own driving around exploring i would maybe think of more stuff but if your with a tour group your probably all set.

for partying, probably the best is july/august, this is when the most people are there.
september might be nice if you want if you want a quieter period that should still be warm enough to go to the beach/swimming.
stop in mykonos anywhere from the end of july to mid august for a dope time, thats when the more popular dj's are there, visit super paradise beach, paranga beach paradise beach and cavo paradiso which is by paradise. Cavo gets all the talent on the island, admission there is about 40 euros..the other clubs there like Space or about 20 euros drinks or still cheap even with the euro, much less then your city prices. Transportation wise the buses take you everywhere you need to go for about 1 euro and try to stay in town its much easier to access everything rather than staying by a beach.

I was there for about a whole week in November (wasn't that chilly!) ... unfortunately, I did not get to hit up any clubs ...
Definitely go to Santorini! <3
And what I liked about the gyros there is they put french fries inside the gyros ... mmm ....
Santorini has 2 major cities. Ios and Fira. Fira is the party city, Ios is the serene scenic town. I like Ios. You'll probably like Fira.
Mykonos is the party island. Cava Paradiso is a must. Outside of that, there's plenty going on. June-August is the best time to go. But August gets CROWDED in all islands. It's also HOT HOT HOT. Wear lots of linen and white and hat if you can. Wear sunscreen for sure. Get sunglasses for Santorini. All buildings are white there and its blinding during the day.
And if you don't have octopus to eat, why even bother going to Greece. You might as well go to Philadelphia. What are you gonna eat? Burger king? It's like going to India and ordering steaks.

I went there a few years ago, to Santorini, Ios, Thanos, Thessalonki and Athens. It was in march so it wasn't quite warm enough to swim/sun bathe. All I have heard is that in the summer there is just waaaaaay to many people. Of course, if you're going to party then that's probably cool with you. I was there for more of a vacation and just relaxin.
If I remember right, one day I was walking around Thessalonki and all I heard was EDM through teh streets. Everyone was drinking, dancing, and bassically partying at like 12pm. It was kinda cool, but you're not goign there ....just wanted to share. =)
Oh and those ferries can get quite expensive, get ready for that!
