Love Poundin' Sensation OrgaNik - Beaten To A Pulp (A Tribute to Big Beat & Breaks)

This mix is something I've been meaning to do for a long time now. Breakbeats and big beat is where the whole EDM journey started for me and I just made this mix in a huge wave of nostalgia.

01. The Crystal Method - Comin' Back [Sony]
02. Apollo Four Forty - The Perfect Crime [Sony]
03. Orbital - I Don't Know You People [FFRR]
04. Lunatic Calm - The Sound [MCA]
05. The Chemical Brothers - Elektrobank [Freestyle Dust]
06. Luke Slater - Bolt Up [Novamute]
07. Junkie XL - Dealing With The Roster [Roadrunner]
08. The Prodigy - Smack My Bitch Up [XL]
09. Filter - Up & Up (Filtered Mix) [Beechwood Music]
10. Freq Nasty - Amped [Skint]
11. Fatboy Slim - Star 69 (Timo Maas Remix) [Skint]
12. The Crystal Method - Cherry Twist [Sony]
13. Junkie XL - Mulu [Roadrunner]

Some of the mixes might be pretty quick but this stuff didn't come with 2 minutes of plain beat to mix with

DOWNLOAD! (1:01:25, 192kbps, 84.3MB)

Enjoy.

Looks like fun. Downloading. Sounds like a good set to get me motivated at work today, since I've been in total slacker-mode.

good stuff, the mixing in & out of electrobank is sweet, solid mixing all around also.

Looks wicked man, grabbing this right now.

Awesome work, Mr. Mystery.

This mix makes me want to jump out of the way of explosions in slow motion, drive my car 100+ mph through incoming traffic and headbutt my dog!

TL looks mint. I'll download when I get off of work. Been waitin' for a new mix from you Mystery. I'm sure it won't dissapoint.

Too long since someone made a prober breakbeat/bigbeat set like dis.
Really enjoying this, just what i need to start my morning at work, especially the first half is immense.

It's a shame that the transition from Dealing With The Roster to Smack My Bitch Up is hella quick, can't say that it bothered me at all, but the mixing up & til then was soo tight!

Anyways, rock-solid mixing, absolutely fabulous TL combined with the nostalgia factor, and Junkie XL!

Keep it up.

Well it's kinda because Dealing With The Roster just stops right there, there's no real outro to it at all. There were couple of tracks like that in there so I just had to do some fast cutting.

Yeah there's only so much you can mix with tracks like that.

This is still a 8++/10 for me. Next time make it 2 hours.

Posted by Mr.Mystery on Feb-27-2008 07:16:

There was a ton of material left over from this, mainly because some of the tracks were in the 100-110bpm range and I just couldn't fit them in. So yes, there will be more...

How can I extend something that isn't there in the first place?

This is exactly the kind of stuff I started out with as well. Should be a proper wave of nostalgia as you say. Grabbing it now.

Posted by smakmagik on Feb-27-2008 11:10:

Heard it, and man, some super tunes in there.
Didn't even care for the mixing, just laid back and enjoyed the tunes. My definition of big beat was a bit different though, with something like Diesel Power qualifying over SMBU, but the Crystal Method and the Apollo 440 tunes are just ace.

I m pathetic at mixing breaks but someone should make some more such sets with these oldskool beats. In fact a mix with Prodigy, Chemical Brothers, Crystal Method and Apollo 440 tunes only would be such a treat.

Thanks for this one Nik. Thoroughly enjoyed it.

well i mean like since there is no "outro" just loop the last few bars or whatever of the tune and use that to mix in?

Posted by tortoise on Feb-27-2008 16:17:

looks sweeet!

Posted by david.michael on Feb-27-2008 17:00:

This was great! Tunes that just make you want to move. I didn't think the quick mixing was harmful to the set at all. Keeping this one.

goddamn tracklist looks tasty. brings me back to '95 lol.

checking it out.

I'm not too familiar with older breaks releases, I only recognized 2 tracks. This mix had some crazy breaks & beats and the transition from the Junkie XL to prodigy's track was well done, really enjoyed this one.

I'm glad you guys are liking it

ok this shit is good. Makes me wanna bang my head around or something.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Feb-28-2008 14:12:

This is exactly what I've been looking for: a solid hour of big-beat with no filler I can play while I'm getting ready to go out. Whoever lives downstairs is going to hear this through his ceiling this evening.

Posted by SYSTEM-J on Feb-29-2008 06:34:

Double post, but fuck it: this was an excellent mix. It actually made me see big beat in a totally different way to what I'm used to: namely a very rock/pop compliant genre replete with artist albums that have killer singles and shit filler. This was killer start to finish, and you kept the energy and momentum high. I've never heard big-beat like that before, and the result was brilliant. Particularly the sequence beginning with Lunatic Calm and ending with The Prodigy, which was nirvana.
