Psytrance Reccommendations

Seeing as how the energy in trance seem to be sapped as of late, I've started shifting more towards my meager psytrance collection. I am aware of all the big names, Yahel, Infected Mushroom (though they seem to be trying to project themselves as rock anymore), Astrix, Skazi, Eskimo, Astral Projection (my favorites being Yahel and Astrix). I'm just looking for some more artists names out there to look up, any suggestions would be appreciated.

Shiva chandra... highly underrated Minimal Psytrance... none of this full on crap.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=p7WNQDJAyO8&feature=related (catchy, groovey... and trippey)
http://youtube.com/watch?v=wDnogY7D5fI&feature=related (deep, dark psychedelic)
check out that and the other stuff of theirs on youtube... from that stuff alone the subsonic album must be amazing.

Apart from that: Khetzal, Shpongle, Celtic cross, Younger brother

for innovative downbeat stuff.

If you like Shiva Chandra... check out Shiva Sidpao... its a project that started before IM with one of the members as well as DJ Jorg. Especially if you like the song Virtual Voyage on the gathering.

I'd also recomend checking out some of the dark psy stuff. Theres plenty of dodgey stuff in there too... but anyway check out THIS set. It's by a Darkpsy producer who posts here and its possibly one of the best sets I've ever heard along with DJ eccentrics Psycho therapy (his username is S3nate now... and I'll find a link soon).

The biggest question though is do you like prog? If you don't then you probably won't like a lot of the artists people recomend (I'm not such a big fan personally).

What's the problem with full on?
There are plenty of talented producers on that genre

Sure... but the mid heavy kicks and annoying synths kind of ruin the good everything else. Bass is good!

Posted by Pinokio on Feb-28-2008 02:03:

sure...but?

what is proper full on for you then?

I love Infected Mushroom, but I don't consider them Full-on.

what about
U-Recken
Vibe Tribe
Bliss
Cosmic Tone
Electro Sun

They are Full-on with mostly light melodies.

or some Dark artists like

Cosmosis
Menog
Shift
Painkiller

They are called Dark, but I don't really find much difference between them and the other full-on groups, the difference falls in the darkness of the melodies.

Some people can't stand light melodies for some reason, and some can not stand dark melodies.

In my own experience I love both, Light and Dark.

I do like prog, but seeing as how there is no shortage of that currently I guess what I am looking for is more "full on" psytrance. I know alot of the really fast stuff can sound cheesy, but sometimes I just need to get my adrenaline rush and prog/proggy trance just can't do that for me -_-. I also would like to find stuff that has kind of an epic/instrumental feel at certan parts, for instance,
Infected Mushroom - Wider (astrix Remix)
Has a really cool, minimalistic instrumental buildup
Yahel - Avalanche
This just has an overall epic feel to it, hard to describe unless you are keen on what's considered "epic" trance
I appreciate the suggestions so far, I'll give the artists a looksee.

The Muses Rapt - Spiritual Healing
The Muses Rapt - Spiritual healing (Juan, Domi & Jorg Remix)

This is the song you are looking for =)

Well if you really like the epic feel... check out Goa trance (what psytrance came out of) in particular the distance to goa series.

On Distance to goa 2 theres a song called moonstone... would defenitly be what your looking for.

I'd highly recomend the mix Goa is dead by Ghost on acid... unfortunately I haven't got a link for it. I'll upp it to my filefront account and that'll be done in about 2 hours.
http://files.filefront.com/Welcome+to+Goa+Week+4+Outlmp3/;9045410;/fileinfo.html

Theres link to one of my goa sets... my transitions aren't that good though.

If you like Yahel, who I consider pretty cheesy, check out the labels HOM-Mega and BNE.

http://www.discogs.com/label/HOM-Mega+Productions

http://www.discogs.com/label/BNE+-+...w+Entertainment

Most of the artists on those two labels should float your boat.

Goa Gil. Saw him in Mexico 2 years ago with The Nommos & Cieba... holy fuckign GOD it was good. Check him out! Guy mixes with DAT tapes... weird... but he puts on a SICK show

EDIT

Also, for a SIIIIICK live act, Infected Mushroom. Saw them at The Avalon in LA a few years back, tore the ROOF OFF. Never seen so many people go nuts. When they did "I Wish" holy god the whole place went up everyone was screaming the lyrics... fucking INSANE... probably one of the best sets i have EVER been too, those guys are sick, they love what they do they get all into it and shit.

Also, Sesto Sento is great live, so is Astrix

Thats not what I've heard about them recently... apparently amit aizen is really bored with this new rock stuff.

Posted by Magadansky on Feb-28-2008 07:43:

Look for:

Human Blue
Alternative Control
Elec3
Sun Control Species
Cosmosis
Blue Vortex

and many more but I am lazy and those were the first to pop up in my mind.

indeed. For what the guy is asking for, there's no point suggesting who we 'like' if it's not so much the sound he obviously does, leaving personal taste out of this helps unless you're a huge fan of what he is.

Posted by Skov on Feb-28-2008 10:57:

Parvati records is pretty dark full-on. Prometheus (Benji Vaughan) makes some full-on kinda progressive stuff aswell.

I highly recommend you try the album:

Nimos - Time Creation

My favorite album in a long time. Its full on, but then again I love full on more than anything else.

Also the album in my sig is good.
