looping frustrations
so i had a pair of numark axis 9s when i first started djing and the looping was always dead on even with .1% pitch. i upgraded to pioneer 800mk2's and for the life of me i cant get the loop to be even close. am i missing something? for the industry standard i dont get why they cant be easier. anyone have any tips? or suggestions? at this stage in the game looping would open up some more doors. so do you use the pre set or the manual realtime cue in & out... adjusting the loop length manually seems to not have the sensitivity to make it any closer.
im sure this was covered several times before but the search stinks so my apologies for that. had to ask, now shed some light
Its not easier, but it is more precise. You just have to keep trying and practicing till you get it. Oftentimes if the loop is a tad off you can just do minor pitch bends to keep it in time.
I've seen lots of big guys use it flawlessly so it is definitely achievable.
Jup, practice is key. Pioneers are a lot more acurate when it comes to looping, but a little harder to get right. I had to make the switch from Numark to Pioneer too, and also found the Pioneer-loops a pain in the ass. That is, untill I got used to them...
You'll get the hang of it pretty soon, it just requires some timing.
you guys use the 1 2 4 8 buttons then? or in out? at least i know its possible now.

what i don't get is that if i hit the 8 button at any time it should loop from that point exactly. the built in bpm counter is pretty accurate, so why would it matter if i hit it right on the down of 1 you know? it should loop from that very point no matter if the beat is on or off. whatevvv im practicing it now and it seams to matter that its on the beat.screw it karate kid's on tv

do you manually go and do the start/end points for the loop? or do you just hit the loop buttons and let it do it automatically?

Manually >
CDJ-1000's sometimes make me want to invest in a PVDJ Grabber...
It's not just you, CDJ800 mk2s actually have a slight flaw in the looping. The patch released last month makes it a little better, but it's still not perfect.
Basically, if you hit the "in" button bang on a beat, then hit "out" a bit later, say it happens to be at 1m 20s 00f for example - it'll instantly return to the start point (in time), but it actually saves the out point a couple of frames later (say 1m 20s 02f)... so the next time it gets to the out point it returns slightly out of time, when it was perfect the first time.
This error is usually 2 frames, but sometimes it's only 1.
The solution to this is: as soon as you hit "out" (to start the loop), tap "out" again then tap the left hand "search" button twice - do that quickly before the track gets to the out point again and you'll be ok. Proper pain in the arse though.
I've never experienced this on a CDJ1000 - they've always looped pretty much perfectly in all the times I've used them (quite a lot!!)
