Due to the aggressive and threatening tone of email and messages left for Marco V both online and with his management, the show in which Marco was to perform as the 1st international DJ to play in Damascus in Syria has been cancelled.
After discussions with the promoter and authorities both in Holland and Syria, it was decided that it was too dangerous for Marco to go ahead with the gig.
Marco said: "Obviously we get all kinds of comments on the boards, mostly positive, some not so good, but never anything like the death threats we received this week. I am very upset that I won't be able to make it; it would have been a first for me, and a first for Syria. At the end of the day we had to consider what's happened and take what is sensible advice. Hopefully one day the situation in Syria will allow international DJs such as myself to come and play as we do in every other part of the world�.
�Threats of any kind need to be considered carefully, and taking that into account cancelling was the only option we could take� said Marco�s manager Anna Knaup. �As Marco said - it was going to be a historic gig for him as well as for Syria, to our knowledge no international DJ has ever played there before".
We'd like to apologize once again for not being able to make this happen, and would like to thank all those involved for their co-operation and understanding.

Well, I take my comment back, it's not so true too much anymore... A lot of people I grew up with who were Italian immigrants, both young and old, they're moving back to Italy... Even my brother's moving to Italy in May, and my mom's spending six months there and six months here from now on... Call it impulse but this country's going down the shitter too... The other day, my grandpa started crying (and I never see him cry) because he was depressed about what this country's turned into... He said he came to the US because he saw everything was big, made of gold, shining lights, land of oppurtunity... 60 years later and several million dollars more, and he's unhappy... His family in Italy are all doing amazing, they're all modern and tan and looking good, their family is prospering... And here he is in America, having lost a son to a car accident in the 80s, two of his grandsons in jail, and one in rehab, and his daughter (my mom) is moving back to the land they fled... It was really sad hearing this all out of his mouth, from the man who was "God-uh Bless-uh Amerigaaa" 100% ever since I've been a kid... The more my grandparents told their Italian paisans in their area about their troubles, they said they have the same troubles too... "My son's in rehab, my daughter's divorced for the third time, my grandson dropped out of school", all this shit... It's a sad commentary on society to see what the American Dream really led to in the long run, and it's sad to see our country how it is at its lowest point, having gone down so fast... Anyway, sorry for the rant, but I found it appropriate upon re-reading my first argument... I'm a dual-citizen to Italy, so you never know, I just might leave to there too someday, we'll see!
And I don't limit this just to Italians.. I read an article that a lot of the Irish that came illegally to Boston during the second half of the 20th century are going back in droves... My friend just moved back to Ecuador, another kid I know is probably moving back to Spain... When you have the possibility to move to a place where working takes a back seat to living, more and more Americans are going back... It's sad that the "If you don't like this country, go back where you came from" mentality is coming true... Little do the ignorants who say that know that it was the immigrants that built this country...

What you are talking about Marcello is very rare in the Russian/Ukrainian community. Nobody will willingly go back because there is no opportunity there for people who are over 45, and the elderly can forget about living with any sort of luxury. The details that you mentioned are all representative of the social situation and values of your group. I am sorry but it is unheard of for a normal former soviet woman to be divorced three times, and if the son of any Russian parents ever even thought about dropping out of school there would be serious repercussions, let alone . I like to think that my family has/is accomplished/accomplishing the American dream because when we came to this country we were on welfare and had nothing to our names; though after much hard work we now live in our own house, own two cars and can afford in most cases to squelch on random materials possessions. And to think less than 10 years ago i was living in a 1 bedroom apartment in Brooklyn with my grandmother while my parents worked. For me the American dream is still there, and i think it is because of the ethics, principles and morals of my people who unlike the modern day stereotypical Italian American are set high with goals and ambitions and not just getting by.

Well, you're probably right in terms of speaking about your people, but that's because Communism ended only recently, relatively speaking... The scars of living in those countries are still there... Ukraine, or most of the Eastern European countries (minus Russia, which is coming back) are no where being close to being in the top 10 world economies, whereas, my example of Italy is way up there, I think 7th?...
And as for lumping the "stereotypical Italian" into the actions and life situations that I mentioned before, I'm not offended at all, but that's also not true at all... Italian-Americans are one of the most prosperous groups in the United States, and almost 85% of Italian-Americans are in white collar jobs and are above middle-class... That's the problem, is what I'm saying... Americanization and prosperity among immigrants brings a lot of things: money, prosperity, entertainment, etc... However, becoming "like an American", making money, and getting ahead in life unfortunately also brings a lot of baggage for the kids growing up a generation later, comfortable and without struggle in life. Dad and mom begin to work long hours to make sure they have the nice car and big house in suburbia, while their little boy is home alone until 8pm doing god knows what... Dad and mom work so much, they lose touch of each other and either live indifferently to the other's existence, or divorce cos of their differences...
The product of the "American Dream" is what I'm saying is the, unfortunate, cause of a lot of bad things also, nothing that should be attributed to any particular race or ethnic group or their tendencies. And as for the relatively new immigrants from Eastern Europe, they will work hard, have a great prosperous life, and make enough money to move out of the neighborhood, and its their kids and grandkids that will go through what I just mentioned...

again thanks for keeping me awake at work 
for the record im italian/armenian ,my mothers side which is 100% italian are all very family oriented and upper middle class. my great grandfather had a fruit and vegetable co. and moved from sicily to new york,my grandmother was 1 of 4 chidren and they all did great and had big familys etc......
however
i stumbled across a term paper my father wrote on armenian heritage when he went to marshall, basically i found out my great great grandmother was thrown off a roof on to a spear by the turkish ..i am 200% all about my armenian heritage but would not want to go there or move there ever

We can all be sure who are the characters who threatened Marco V. Hint...they were not Buddhists. I also remember reading somewhere that Tiesto received death threats last year before a gig in some Muslim country (Indonesia?). It's a crying shame because the EDM scene appears to be taking off in countries such as UAE, Lebanon, Turkey...and even in Syria!
