any recording software that shows the waves in realtime?

not experienced with much computer software other than acid and cool edit, so i know i'm about 10 years behind on my knowledge of this stuff

i have a pair of rca's connecting my mixer to my computer and have just used my old Cool Edit Pro software for years for recording mixes, but i was curious if there is any software out there that will show the sound waves in realtime or with minimal lag (as it's recording) for each channel?

just a question out of curiousity, inspired by a scene in "it's all gone pete tong" and no i'm not deaf i'm just into "showy" looking cool stuff ... i'll admit it haha

Audacity

i installed Audacity to try it out from a few different sources and it crashes when i launch it.

is there any other one out there that will record or maybe take it one step further and manipulate audio from an external source like a mixer? i came across mixmeister but when i tried the demo it looked like it was just some mp3 dj software and the "external audio" capabilities i wanted looked like it was just for a usb midi controller.

i think Sony Soundforge does what you're looking for!
