The official announcement of Metal Gear Solid: The Essential Collection, a compilation of Hideo Kojima's cinematic stealth triology trilogy for PlayStation 2, marks the second time a recent Konami rumor has become reality. Given the consistently fortuitous circumstances, we thought you should know that it's been rumored that Konami has mailed us a check for a million billion dollars.

While we await the confirmation cha-ching, we'll remind you that in exchange for $29.99, The Essential Collection offers the PlayStation classic, Metal Gear Solid, the "director's cut" of infamous rug puller, Metal Gear Solid 2, and finally, the culinary delight that is Metal Gear Solid 3: Subsistence. It'll keep you out of trouble until Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots arrives later this year.

Update: We've confirmed a March 18th release date with Konami. Also noteworthy is that while the collection will include the Substance and Subsistence games, they will be without their respective bonus discs.

$30 MGS + the 2 premium editions of the sequels

It's just a shame only one of them was worth playing more than once.

I've never plaid any of the metal gear solid series

Posted by zokissima on Mar-03-2008 14:51:

That's a great deal. Anyone know when its available at EB?

Posted by supervisor on Mar-03-2008 15:02:

For me that is a great deal considering Metal Gear Solid. This game is very good I love playing it.

It isn't my fault the two of you enjoy shit, there's absolutely nothing to like about MGS2 or 3.

Though I guess I'll allow Stren the nostalgia of 3 having to do with the Cold War - something I know is near and dear to his heart.

MGS3 would've been great if they axed the whole recovery system... it really got annoying and slowed the pace of the game down to a crawl, I think MGS3 had some of the most varied gameplay in the series due to its mostly organic environments and diverse assortment of tools... but damn opening the menu and suturing your wounds, disinfecting them, etc really got on my nerves after like the 10th time :P

1 is still definitely my favorite, although I didn't quite like the 'Cube remake of it.

Do you smoke crack for a living? MGS > your life.

Based on your posts, your opinion on games (and just about anything else) is laughable.

Why don't you try actually formulating a reasonable statement or argument instead of playing "I'm 12 and just got the internet, fuck you man!"

Metal Gear Solid 2 started out brilliantly than deteriorated into an awful narrative about a character who didn't matter involving excessive amounts of backtracking, 3 completely abandoned the feel of the series in the hopes of painting a more vivid "history" of the MGS universe and only managed to come off as bland, disinteresting, and highly tedious.

I don't expect any of that to resonate with you though, you seem to be bellend of the month in the gaming forum. Well in.

You believe what ever you want - expressing enjoyment of something hardly qualifies as "hype" any more than criticizing something makes you a "hater."

And you've clearly got no place to comment - you haven't even played it.

Posted by RJT on Mar-06-2008 04:59:

And feel free to re-read the LO thread and try to note the criticisms made instead of just seeing what you want to and making assumptions.

It really only serves to prove that you're incapable of either reading or comprehension.

My guess is it's both.

laughable. metal gear solid 2 was good to play if you paid no attention to the plot, especially in the last third of the game

ladies ladies, you're BOTH right.

MGS2 was both shit AND awesome at the same time. If one completely disregards the mess of a storyline (or lack thereof in immensely advancing it) it offered wonderful gameplay, cinematic drama and political/social commentary. Beautiful and deep, yet it gave gamers an aggressive case of blue balls with the introduction of Raiden and the stupid plot twist unveiled in the final third.

MGS3, inversely has one of the best plots ever seen in a video game. Assisted with the cinematics, I find it to be definitive of video game art. But the hindering camera angles, tedious menu changing tasks (uniform, food, supply bag, medicine), and, in my honest opinion, guards that were impossible to sneak up on, I thought it had the worst gameplay of all MGS'.
