Got Screwed Over Through Kijiji

So to keep things short I bought an Eticket from ticketmaster off this dude for a hockey game for 100 bucks a while back and they didnt even work...when I went to the gate the guy said someone already used them so I got fucked over. Im guessing he just sold the tickets to a few people for money but knew full well they wouldnt work...mustve printed our multiple copies. The guys phone number doesnt even work anymore so I was wondering if it is anything I can do...I have his name but how much shit will I have to go through to get the money back and will if even be worth the hastle? Would the cops do anything about it ?I bought them through Kijiji.

So your telling me if this dude sold a couple pairs of tickets to random people and went to the game himself and most of the people went to the police they still wouldnt be able to do anything...because thats the only thing I can think of as to why I wasnt able to get in. I mean the guy seemed really nice and honest but I guess I should just learn my lesson and move on.

Posted by Engine9 on Mar-06-2008 22:33:

thats why u dont buy those print out etickets because u can print out as many copies of it as u want

get your justice.. i would file a complaint on kijiji... also inquire threw ticketmaster.. I am sure ticketmaster logs ip's and the ticket should have details on it that will link it to a ticketmaster account..

unless teh guy used an internet cafe or someone's other computer...or library computer... u might be outta luck.. i would keep on looking on kijiji.. im sure if the guy got away with it he will most likely try it again,,

please catch this jack ass!

Posted by barbina on Mar-06-2008 22:45:

get over it.
buy your own ticket from ticketmaster next time

They always seem that way. The police could do something, they just wont. Just move on its not worth the hassle.

Count your losses...

Posted by activate on Mar-06-2008 23:12:

I would defintely report it to the police and to the site.

but i wouldn't count on every getting your money back.

That being said... that's a pretty good idea!

Posted by spitty on Mar-07-2008 00:22:

the police won't do anything for your 100$
the only point of reporting it will be to add to the statistic

i would talk to kijiji and look for the prick yourself

PWNED!

Posted by exstasie on Mar-07-2008 00:45:

pretty much bite your losses.

Make sure you always pay everything in Credit Card. That way you can reverse the transaction if the money doesn't come.

Only thing you can do is suck it up.

You can report it to the police or RCMP since they might already have a file on the person...

but as for your money, you're not getting it back...and if you do you should be VERY thankful

Kijiji is owned by eBay...did u use PayPal?

if the police are getting numerous reports of someone doing this, they will investigate it.

It's pretty easy for them to get a warrant to take to an IP and found out where a posting originated from.

That is true, but doesn't mean that they have time. I have to deal with the RCMP from time to time but they just have so much bigger and more important things to worry...

Things just tend get lost under the piles of papers...

Easiest scam to pull off, gad. Print out several copies of ticket, sell dozens of them, get your ass to see show as soon as the gate opens, profit.

+1

I've had this happen to quite a few people I know. Somehow ppl just don't seem to get it: don't buy what looks like a photocopy; it probably is.

The short of it is, you're SOL. And don't waste your time pursuing this, since in all likelihood you will not get anywhere. Realistically Kijiji can do nothing. At most, trace an IP from where it was posted, but without a court order, no way in hell you'll get that. And even if, it means nothing to you. The cops could do something, if most divisions in Toronto didn't allready have a fraud backlog two years long, and I kid you not. So yeah, sorry to hear it, but chalk it up to a lesson lived and learnt.

I'm pretty sure Kijiji won't do anything
but try nevertheless
quote:
What recourse do I have if my transaction has gone bad or if I have been defrauded?
If you feel that your transaction with another Kijijij user has gone bad or you have been cheated by a fraudulent Ad on the site, please let us know about it. If appropriate, you should contact the police to pursue criminal charges. Remember to trade locally and transact in-person to reduce the risk that your transaction will "go bad".

Does Kijiji offer any type of mediation between buyers and sellers?
Kijiji is a local platform to connect buyers and sellers. All transactions and the details of the transactions are completed between the two parties. At no time does Kijiji get involved in these details or the transaction itself. We do not offer any types of verification of who a person is. If you have any questions or concerns about a transaction please contact the other party and do your best to resolve the situation between the two of you. If you feel you have been defrauded, contact your local police department.

Can I scalp tickets on Kijiji?
Scalping tickets is against the law in many provinces. In those provinces, we do not allow tickets to be sold over face value. Since we can not know the price of every ticket for every event in every city, we encourage the community to use the "Report this Ad" links to notify us when they see tickets violating this policy.

Odds are if he was smart he wasn't going to use his home IP.

It's not that hard to change your IP or use someone elses IP for that matter....
