My tv is making the same sound that comes out of the kettle when we are heating water for coffee.... WTF? has anyone experienced this before? how do i make it stop!!??!!

(PS. I'm allowed to say that b/c my imported father refused to by a new TV until whacking our old one - which was bought second hand when we moved to Canada in 1990 - stopped working and one day it got so hot that smoke pratically started coming out of it)
