Need help With AKG K240 Studio

So I saw most people here are using the 240s and ive been looking for a good Full sized phones for a while, NOT for producing - but for listening purposes and ive wanted to know if i should buy these.



THIS THREAD ON HEAD-FI kinda shakes me, especially this post:

dont bother for general listening, get some sennheiser hifi ones.

Yea, i thought so too but they are really pricey where i live and the Senns i CAN afford (HD555) are not all that great (Sennhesier "veiled" sound and ive heard that frequencies above ~8KHz are severely attenuated with these phones.

HD270 sucks, the hd280 are painful, the Hd500 are too hot and not detailed enough.

Are the 240s really that bad for EDM listening?

They're fine for listening. I prefer them over my Sennheiser HD280s, which do not sound as natural. They do have punchier bass though. They're painful to wear though after some time. The AKGs are different though. Sometimes I even forget I'm wearing them.

Can you afress the issues presented in my first post?
And what do you mean by "fine", do they preform "ok" with EDM unamped or do they preform great?

I think they sound great for EDM. They're not "OMG BAZZ!!!111" like the HD-280s, but they sound very natural and warm.
The HD-280s offer more bass punch but the mids on them are just horrible. I suggest you listen to them yourself. Most hifi stores should have them. Also consider the k271 model.

I haven't tried the k240s, but I have the k271s and they are seriously awesome.. I also own the HD280, but I wouldn't reccomend them over akg..

Hey Viber. Im using the Technics RP-DJ1210E-S for about 8 Years now and im still convinced they belong to the best models for EDM. The bass is very punchy and it offers a good range of high frequencies too, anyway the sound is still kinda balanced so i can use them for producing. Anyway they can get a little unconfortable after a few hours of listening. AKG is of course pretty comfortable. My parents own these for about 20 Years now and they are still good, the sound is good, a little more balanced then on my Technics Headphones.

Plus of the Technics is.
- They go loud as hell withoug clipping.
- They offer a good punch and brilliant highs.
- You can use them as Dj Headphone too.
- Ive been extensivly using them for about 8 Years now without
loosing an brilliance in sound.

Plus of the AKG's is
- They are veeery very comfortable
- They Sound very balanced and offer a great frequency range for
accoustic and natural music.
- They have a quality that lasts for years too.

I have never been using Sennheiser Headphones but i guess they are very good too because of the great response they get everywhere.

At least i would just have a listen in a Hifi Shop.

ive tried my friend's 1200DH technics a while back and it was a painful experience so i think i pass on technics.

you say the akg are great for natural music, how are they for EDM??

I�m so happy that I invested in good phones some time ago...nothing beats those Beyerdynamics (DT770Pro), perfect for everything, listening, djing, producing, monitoring, everything works just fine...they were like about 140 euros, but really worth it...

I just got AKG240 today and i am really shocked how "thin" all my tracks sound. I was used to some philips hifi phones. with the akg everything sound very detailed

Not enough information on them on the net though...

after some more testing i found out what the "thin" thing is about. it is that my tracks sound thin. I always thought they sounded fat because I use bad monitors and hifi headphones. what a shame. the akg are much more detailed
