Rez HD

Somewhat old news (there's been a thread in the gaming forum for a while), but I thought a lot of you who don't look there very often might appreciate this as well.

In any event, I decided that this afternoon I was quite fucked off with studying and decided to spend some time with this game. We used to have a lot of when I was in school @ Stevens Point getting pretty mashed and watching and/or playing this game.

Really an excellent combination of EDM and gaming that any of you who haven't checked it out, should.

sold my xbox a week ago

And here I thought this was going to be about a different Rez.

Oh man this game is fantastic, one of my all time favorites. It's really a great combination of sound and visuals, the game being HD just makes it that much better. The tracks are pretty varied and enjoyable (at least in my opinion) and the way the games set up they never seem to sound exactly the same as you play through the different areas. It seems really simplistic on the surface but there's actually quite a bit of depth to the game, especially with the new Xbox achievements.

Watching or playing while under the influence is also a blast. You really can't beat 12 bucks either, top notch game.

hah yeah, a thread over at somethingawful was how i found out about it, i was thinking it was gonna be about underworld too

nonetheless, fucking sweet game
oh and i've had a theory for a while that the music i write sounds like what i was listening to a month or two ago
last month i was playing rez a lot, haven't played in at least 2-3 weeks, and last night i wrote this out of nowhere

Posted by idoru on Mar-07-2008 20:00:

Fuck it. For good measure...

Though the game does look pretty slick.

Its the best way to experience this fine piece of video game art.

It really is one of those games that is artistically really well done. And yeah, it's great fun to get blitzed and watch someone play the game.

I prefer Wipeout. One of the best game sound tracks to date.

Wipeout is a great game - but it's effectively just a racing game with an EDM soundtrack.

Rez actually uses music as part of the gameplay, without it being a "rhythm" game (as we know all too well, white folks got none).

It's just the combination of the music and the weird existential kind of "story" that I think puts this one in a class of its own.

Posted by enydo on Mar-07-2008 20:29:

Your actions in Rez directly affect how the track is played out, each level being centered around a specific song. As you progress through each zone the track builds and builds and different effects and layers are added. Once you reach the boss at the end the music really reaches it's peak. It's a really great effect.

Very true. Only played REZ a few times at a friends house, but now u have sparked my interest, and I'm going to track it down for my PS2!

Lol, trust me - it's anything but easy. It just doesn't seem like you're doing all together that bad until you get to the boss - but in reality you can play pretty poorly and still have fun.

Good luck! Near impossible to find. Somehow I found it at a Gamestop in Marietta, Georgia for $39.99, pricy for a game made in 2001, and I bought it in 2005.

Posted by RJT on Mar-07-2008 22:14:

Yup - PS3 and Xbox 360 Live Arcade are the best options right now. $10, HD and wide screen graphical update.

It's a nice little package - and all right around ~100mb download.

just got the DC version and PS2!

Rez is such an amazing game. I've had it for the Dreamcast for awhile (~cough~pirated~cough~neverofficiallyreleased)

I borrowed a projector from work one day to watch the Superbowl and decided to hook up my 360 to it and I was amazed to see Rez HD. Playing it on a 12ft screen was orgasmic, I highly suggest everyone tries it if they have the means.

The art form and the music along with the unique game play make it a completely enjoyable experience. <3

The PS2 version has a "trance vibrator" accessory that vibrates to the beat. We all know what that's used for...

It's actually awesome, i put it under the pillow i'm laying on while i'm playing. i know i know HURRRR ITS A VIBRATOR. say what you want, it makes it fucking intense, and that wasn't stoned. seriously, i can only imagine how ridiculous this game would be. (oh and on the recent 360 release, up to 3 additional controllers can be used as vibrators)

Posted by kadomony on Mar-08-2008 12:14:

i use a couple tracks from the soundtrack in my sets sometimes.

good stuff; love this game.

Both? Impressive! You've got some real value there. Well, maybe not so much now seeing as the how game has been re-released.

Sounds pretty neat. I saw it in action on some youtube video when they were demonstrating this game at some game convention back before it released.

Whats insane is that I heard it took FIVE years to make this game. Thats some serious dedication.

Damn, 5th grade flashbacks! This is what got me into EDM - the first track on this vid has one of my favorite songs...that vocal bit pops in my head whenever I think of this game. So sweet (as all the sequels have been). Rez is great too, so trippy, it's like playing through a mix of 2001 and Tron but with a way better soundtrack. I just need to get that trance vibrator - was that Japan only?
