Countdowns

I don't know about you guys, but on Facebook I'm seeing a lot of people counting down for enjoyable events in their life like trips, parties, etc.

Now if something is 2 weeks away for example, that's one thing, but I'm seeing some countdowns booked such as:

"California booked 72 days away"
"Cancun booked...58 days!"
"Los Cabos booked, 7 weeks away baby!"

These are events 2-3 months away! Counting down the days to something this far away seems like such a waste of life. I mean, shouldn't you be living every day to it's fullest? Or maybe I don't get it...?

At least they are not as bad as those annoying-ass requests for 'Are you Hot or Not?' applications!

People have way too much time on their hands.

I love countdowns (but not to the point that I advertise them on facebook)

At work I made a countdown for the first day of spring and attached it to the outside of my cubicle. Every person that walks by and reads "12 days till springs" instantly smiles.

Its nice to know that Spring is just around the corner... because Canadian winters suck.

When I'm about to bust a nut, I count it down like it's New Years Eve.

exactly....the present is a present.....some ppl need to learn to enjoy it and stop preoccupying themselves with the future or counting down days for it...

ahahahahaha

I guess there are a few times when countdowns are ok.....

If your comment is about living in the present, then it really doesn't matter how far in advance people are counting down. 1 day or 100, it makes no difference.

Maybe you just wish you had something to look forward to as much.

I have a lot to look forward to, I just don't count it down 3 months in advance.

I'm just bitter that the snow killed my New York trip today. I was supposed to go to Pacha tonight for Victor Calderone's birthday bash and now I'm going to miss it because I can't get a flight until Sunday...booo!

How does having a schedule of events I'm going to equal a countdown? I don't know how many days difference it is between today and the events in the schedule. In fact I put it up to interact with like minded TA's. Big difference.

And now I'm going to add Bal en Blanc to my schedule, because my NYC trip fell through.

in that case,

note to self: Never disable signatures on TA.

I don't actually think it does - I can't even see your signature. But my point about whether an event is 1 day away or 100 days still stands - complain about everyone or complain about no one, since they're all equally not living in the present!

I think in most cases it's the application itself automatically sending invites to everyone on peoples' friend lists... not the people actively doing this.

A good friend encourages other friends to get all that application junk removed from their profiles (feel free to threaten with death or disfiguration if it is likely to provide better results)

lol...i said "about to bust a nut" not "counting from the begining"
Where's all those "failed" pics?

Posted by The Wiz on Mar-10-2008 01:04:

hah I love a good countdown. I hate to wish my life away but some things just get me very excited...

However, the most annoying countdowns by far are:

"174 days until my wedding"
"27.5 days pregnant- watching my belly grow!"
