stuff like Q-bert?

neat to look at for a little bit but then loses it's novelty pretty fast for me.

Its kinda cool for the first minute or 2... then it gets annoying.

repost

I believe Q-bert is from Hawaii too...

yeah it's something I enjoy watching, but I don't think I'd ever practice it myself. the sound of scratching annoys me when in large amounts.

respect to creating tracks/beats on the fly though...

Nifty lookin, I wouldn't really listen too it though.

for me beat juggling is amazing, but scratching is boring

My favourite: Mix Master Mike

And here's him with Beastie Boys in video for Three MC's And One DJ from Hello Nasty (pretty funny in the beginning)

DJ Q-bert is from the bay area.

I'm pretty sure he's had some residency here in Hawaii...

A few scratches here and there in a set are kinda cool. Eddie Halliwell just overdoes it.

I personally don't see the point of it at all. Sure it takes skill, but does it actually sound good? Zabiela and Halliwell are ok though.

It's all about C2C...

q-bert and craze are my favorites

I'm definitely a fan of turntablism, being from Cleveland I've seen a lot of really impressive DJ's at the Mix Master Massacre. Now that I'm in Atlanta I miss it.

Zabiela is impressive at what he does, but I don't think he can match the manipulation of tracks that turntablists can pull.

Then again I've never had the privilege of seeing Zabiela live so I'm not to sure of what he's capable of.

It's very different though. Zabiela's music is designed for dancing to with a technical slant, where as turntablism is pure showmanship - you're not gonna go to an 8 hour event with just turntablists all night and expect to dance for most of it.

This is partly why I rate Dave Clarke so highly - his skills border on turntablism, I'll admit what he does isn't quite up to the standard of the DMC kings, but it's still designed to rock a crowd and keep them dancing for 2 hours, which isn't something the turntablists could pull off. Plus half of the stuff he plays is just downright evil!!
