Mining Israelian Goa trance of its hottest intensities, Infected Mushroom remain one of the Middle East's biggest international cult successes. Erez Aizen's cheap background in obsessed bedroom computer tinkering had led him into and out of a number of crude dance efforts, and when a mutual friend suggested he should get together with Amit Duvdevani, a trash metal fan who had just returned from an aborted career path in India, the two found enough in common to surreptitiously explore the rising psychedelic trends pouring out the nation's clubs. The results -- 1998's The Gathering, which was heavily inspired by the surreal ambient dance of Simon Posford, X-Dream, and Transwave, and 2000's Classical Mushroom, an aggressively melodic trance LP that broke the European, Japanese, and American markets -- elevated Infected Mushroom to one of Israel's key trance producing duos.

HALLUCINOGEN Live
Hallucinogen is Simon Posford, a producer of psychedelic trance music from England. His first album, Twisted, was one of the most widely influential psy-trance recordings. The follow-ups, "Deranger" EP and "The Lone Deranger" album only cemented his influence. Simon Posford is also known for his collaboration with Raja Ram, together they form the cult psychedelic chillout act Shpongle. He has many other side projects such as Younger Brother (with Benji Vaughan), Celtic Cross (with Martin Glover, aka Youth), some tracks with The Infinity Project, Beast, and many others. While he has only released two Hallucinogen albums, he has remained very active in many projects.
His album "Twisted" is the best selling psy trance-album ever.

SPHONGLE DJ set
The members of Shpongle include Simon Posford and Raja Ram, in addition to many collaborators and guest musicians.
Simon Posford is also the driving force behind Hallucinogen and the label Twisted Records, while
Raja Ram is member of 1200 Micrograms. He also works with Graham Wood, Anjee Sian and other contributors/collaborators as The Infinity Project. Raja Ram is also founder of the indo-prog/raga rock group of the 60's/70's Quintessence.
Their sound is a mix of mainly eastern ethnic samples and western contemporary psychedelic synth music. Posford is responsible for the synth and studio work while Raja Ram contributes with flute arrangements. They are both responsible for the visionary input. According to one interview, they commonly visualize the music together before and during the creation process.
Shpongle's first tune, Vapour Rumors, was released on TIP Records' Infinite Excursions compilation in 1996. Their debut album, Are You Shpongled?, was released 1998 on Twisted Records. The high sound quality, successful mix of samples, instruments and synths along with the story and progress of the music through the album made it one of the most cutting edge releases of that time. Are You Shpongled? and Twisted Records' first downtempo compilation, Eclipse, made a huge impact on the psychedelic trance scene in 1998.

Enfin, dan toch maar een review plaatsen
We kwamen toe tegen ongeveer half 11 en we zagen direct al een hele rij staan. Wij waren natuurlijk content dat we onze tickets in voorverkoop gekocht hadden, maar wat bleek, de rij wachtenden had ook een ticket gekocht in presale en stond gewoon te wachten op een bandje aan de kassa (er was maar 1 kassa open voor degene die een ticket hadden in voorverkoop!).. Volgens mij stond er daar honderd man, terwijl er ook nog een kassa was die gewoon tickets aan de deur verkocht, daar stond niemand.. Volgende keer dus liever wat extra kassas voorzien, dan hadden we nooit een half uur in de kou moeten staan op een bandje, terwijl wij mooi ons ticket hadden gekocht in voorverkoop.
Maar ok, uiteindelijk raakten we toch binnen en ik moet zeggen ,het was een ideale zaal om dergelijk feest te houden, het was nooit te druk en toch zat de zaal heel goed vol, bediening aan de bar was heel snel en de prijzen vielen nog wel mee, dus daar klaag ik niet over. Bovendien was de zaal heel mooi ingericht en kwamen de aanwezige lasers enorm goed tot hun recht, ik zal strax nog wel wat sfeerfoto's posten.
De eerste dj die bezig was, was Shpongle, en die draaide eigenlijk ene heel sterk naar ambient neigend prog psy setje , lekker chilly om de avond mee te openen Maar wij kwamen vooral voor j00f en die mocht direct erna al aan de bak. Wegens omstandigheden is zijn set ingekort naar 1 uur (heel jammer), maar desondanks speelde ie de set van de avond 
Het blijft heerlijk om hem bezig te zien, duidelijk genietend van elke bit in zijn set, en een publiek die heel goed meeging (raar volkje trouwens, die psyfans, maar we stoorden er ons niet echt aan). J00f sloot zowaar af met een remix van Strange World, volgens Joeri (FCB_Fanatic) ging het om de Astral Projection remix.. Anyway, waardige afsluiter voor een ACE setje Volgende keer weer boeken en 2 uur geven aan deze dj!
Ondertussen was alles al klaargezet voor Infected Mushroom in Concert. Ik heb serieus rare ogen getrokken toen ik hun eerste tracks hoorde, gitaren overvloedig aanwezig , precies een rockconcert, maar de psybeats maakten het een raar, maar heerlijk geheel De meeste sfeer was aanwezig tijdens het concert en ik moet toegeven, toch wel grotendeels terecht. Blij dat ik ze aan het werk gezien heb, ik heb er zeker van genoten. Infected Mushroom speelde daarna ook nog een Oldskool set, maar dat was een beetje teveel van het goeie voor mij eigenlijk, weeral die gitaren enzo.. Het deed me allemaal niet veel meer en voor mij mochten ze die set gerust weggelaten hebben.
Hallucinogen kwam daarna op de proppen met een set en echt ik stond verbaasd van het contrast met Shpongle, de alias van dezelfde man. Hij knalde nu lekker door en ik vond zowaar al men energie terug Leuke set.
De laaste dj die we bezig gezien hebben was Norion, en ook zijn set vond ik heel deftig. Hij had direct het volk mee - volgens mij herkenden 80% van de de aanwezigen zich in zijn dreadlocks - en presenteerde een mooie set. We hebben de set echter niet helemaal uitgeluisterd en zo Firaga gemist, want we waren toch al redelijk moe en hebben dan gekozen om iets te gaan zoeken om te eten. Ik moest trouwens ook 3 uur op de trein zitten dus kon ik het niet echt tot 8u trekken

Als er volgend jaar een nieuwe editie komt ben ik zeker aanwezig
toch ook nog even de moeite doen om een review te posten (hoewel Wouter al het grootste deel verteld heeft )
Het was door omstandigheden al een hele bedoening om tijdig in Hasselt te geraken en dan bleek bij aankomst dat er ons dus een lange rij stond op te wachten alvorens we ons inkombandje hadden. Gelukkig was dit ��n van de weinige minpuntjes van de avond. Voor de rest was alles goed georganiseerd, te beginnen met de zaal: �norm vette licht- en geluidsinstallatie in de zaal met de typische bijhorende psy decoratie. Het geheel mocht best gezien worden. Ook de sfeer zat vlug goed, er was niet veel nodig om het volk aan het feesten te krijgen. De opkomst viel ook enorm goed mee (ook veel buitenlanders waaronder franstaligen en duitsers),: de zaal was nagenoeg vol met wel nog de nodige ruimte om deftig te kunnen bewegen, ... ideaal dus .
We zijn uiteindelijk omstreeks 11u binnen geraakt toen Sponghle bezig was. Die speelde een deftig opwarmingssetje: een vrij rustig prog set, om dan tegen het einde het tempo wat op te drijven wat voor de eerste serieuze sfeermomenten zorgde. Daarna nam J00F het over, jammer genoeg iets later dan verwacht waardoor hij uiteindelijk maar een dik uur zou draaien. Hij begon hierbij met "00.db - Magna" als intro en is er daarna direct ingevlogen en hij had dan ook het volk onmiddellijk mee. Het was er daarom ook weer goed aan te merken dat hij enorm aan het genieten was van zn set . Verder heeft hij ook nog een tweetal Wizzy Noise tracks gedraaid (waaronder Sea Song als ik mij niet vegis, en mogelijk ook de Wizzy Noise remix van "Sub6 - Droid Save The Queen"). Hij sloot uiteindelijk af met de Astral Projection Remix van Strange World.
Daarna nam Infected Mushroom het over met hun live concert. Er troepte toen extra veel volk vooraan samen om het allemaal van de eerste rij te kunnen meemaken. De sfeer zat er ook hier onmiddellijk in. Tracks die ik heb herkend zijn: "Infected Mushroom - Deeply Disturbed" en "Infected Mushroom - Cities Of The Future" (de naam van de 3de IM track die ik herkende is mij nog steeds niet te binnen geschoten ). Na hun live act, die meer dan 1.5u duurde, hebben ze nog een setje gedraaid en hierover ben ik het eens met Wouter; na anderhalf uur IM live was die set er teveel aan. We hebben ons toen even rustig neergezet tot Hallucinogen eraan begon. Ook die kerel heeft een leuke energieke set neergezet waarna Norion het overnam. Dat was ook zeer deftig maar we zijn het uiteindelijk na een uur in zn set doorgegaan omdat het toch wel vermoeidend werd (ook omdat ik er vandaag voor 5u uit moest om de drukte naar Brussel te vermijden). Firaga zal dus voor een ander keertje zijn: voor op TL 2009 ... of wie weet, een volgende editie van dit feestje (6 Years B2B productions )
This months' diary from JOOF:
Sorry for missing last months diary, I had a plethora of pms and emails letting me know they missed it! I had a really busy week and only just found the time for my blog; that ran a couple of weeks lateironic it was on the same topic!
Again its been a crazy month, I think I say this every month! But theres always something important to do, usually with a deadline, every week, this year seems to have flown by due to this. I have many personal hobbies that I never get time to enjoy, especially my car. It sits in the garage never getting used. Hopefully next year Ill make sure I find time.
The start of the month found me giving my studio a complete reshuffle. The 00.db album has been completed, so now was a good time to access how I work and what equipment is needed and what isnt. A visit from my very close friend Airwave made me realize; as we worked on some projects together (to be announced sometime next year). I spend my life on the road, so it makes sense to be able to save projects and put them on my laptop so that I can continue to work on the plane or hotel rooms, meaning that I must sell my digital desk. The problem I had before is that I had half the mix running through the desk meaning I couldnt take it away with me. So the Desk went on EBay.yes us DJs use EBay too! With that gone I moved to Logic 8 and also pimped my current Apple G5 with more Ram and internal drives. I didnt see the sense in upgrading it just yet as I never run out of power, the old saying if it isnt broken, dont fix it! Two more 24 displays and PCi plug-ins and I was happy, so now Im excited to be working on my own artist albumeventually
Gigs wise have been fantastic starting off at Planet love in Ireland. I was a little worried at first because I was playing so early. Dave Pearce was on before me and he managed to fill the place nicely before I went on. The crowd where hilarious as they where all dressed in aluminous workmen style gear. The funny thing was that you couldnt distinguish the staff from the clubbers, they where all wearing the same clothes. We had a nightmare trying to find my driver. They guys in the office said to look for the guy wearing the aluminous yellow top, there where 20,000 of them!
After my set the driver had to race to the airport to get me to Scotland, we couldnt afford to lose any time. I soon realised she didnt have a clue where she was going as she was telling me she not used to being the other side of the city. Luckily I have navigation on my phone, so this got us out of trouble. I got to the airport and ran to the plane. A five-hour drive was waiting for me at the other end to get me to the most Northern tip of Scotland at Wick. Im making a conscious effort (as I promised earlier on in the year) to reach out to these smaller towns and cities across the World, and so glad I did. The crowd where crazy going nuts on the dance floor, like they have experience dance music for the very first time. Ill admit it wasnt the best of venues, but the crowd where electric and thats what made it worthwhile for me. After my visit, it looks like they are going to take things more seriously up there now, so I may have inspired a refit and new sound system, Ill be back to test it out for sure.
The following weekend found me back in Seattle, USA. This was my first time away from my usual home of The Last Supper club. This time it was a full-on rave for Hakuna Matata (4) productions. I was given strict instructions from Jesse the promoter from the moment he collected me at the airport, just play what you want, and make it hard! Its not often you hear that from a promoter, its usually the other way around!! So I did what he said and the old theatre where the event was held and al hell erupted. Dam it was a good night. Its usually a Hardstyle crowd, but they adapted to my sound very well, in fact too well. The next night I headed down to San Francisco to play at one of my favourite clubs in the World, 1015. As usual Taj, the promoter lets me play as long as I like. Ismael the resident warmed up the crowd beautifully ( a real pro DJ) and let me take over the controls. The crowd are truly amazing here, they allow me to play from my heart and follow me through every twist and turn that I throw at them. I walk away from this place feeling proud to be a DJ, its an amazing experience.
I then made a double trip to Belgium; firstly it was my turn to visit Airwaves studio in Brussels then to a huge party with Infected Mushroom. In-between I went back to the UK in order to play my JOOF night at Tidy weekender in North Wales. I know it didnt make sense to head back to the UK, but its the only way I could fit it into my schedule. Its not far anyway, especially with the very fast Eurostar through the channel tunnel, its actually quicker for me to get to Brussels on the train, than it is to Birmingham in the UK!
The Tidy weekender in North Wales had to be the biggest surprise of the month. Tidy are usually known for their Hard House line ups, so I was kinda surprised when they asked me to not only play, but to do a JOOF themed night. Unfortunately my good friend Astrix couldnt make it along that night because he is still recovering from his back surgery. Once at the venue I saw all my colleagues of old, Anne Savage, Lisa Pin up and plenty of old faces. It was like stepping back in time seeing them all again. I was a little nervous worried how the crowd would take my sound, but just steamed into things. Amber D was playing before me at a good 153 BPM (!) so it made sense to keep things at an energetic pace, but I took things deeper and darker. I couldnt believe the reaction of the crowd, they where lapping it up. It was amazing to see a completely different crowd jumping around like crazy to music that should be out of place at this event. I had many people at the end asking what style of music I was playing, it was very rewarding and I'll certainly go back again, thats for sure.
A six hour drive eventually got me back home, well for 3 hours sleep, then it was back to Brussels! There was no time to mess around, as soon as I landed I was raced to the venue as I was a little late. I played after Simon Cossford (Shpohgle DJ set). He was playing a lovely deep 125 BPM. I knew Infected Mushroom where playing after me and I only had an hour to take things to a more energetic pace. I didnt want to throw energetic stuff at them because I knew Infected would be doing this. An hour can go so quickly, just as I was getting into my flow, my time was up. What a fantastic site seeing a huge hall completely full to an event with Infected Mushroom, Shpongle, Hallucingen and me in Europe. Maybe this is the turn of something new musically in Europe, I really hope so
