Time Out New York interview with Steve Bug
Time Out New York
Meet the beetle
Electronic-house honcho Steve Bug buzzes into WMC...
It was on the fifth day of last years conference that 1,000 or so hard-core clubbers were hanging outmake that staggering aroundin the sun-drenched courtyard of a club called Pawn Shop. A lineup of world-class techno spinners was playing, but at that stage of the game, it didnt really matter who was on at any given time. A few tracks after one particular set began, however, attention jolted back to the music, which somehow sounded richer, deeper and just more important than it had a few minutes ago. Looking up toward the booth, the throng could see why: Germanys Stefan Brgesch, better known in clubland as Steve Bug, was rocking the tunes.
Bug, whos spinning at Cielo this Thursday, has a straightforward explanation for why his set differed from that of the other jocks that day. Its just a matter of finding tracks that have some kind of feeling to them, he says. You do need some purely beat-oriented tracks that work on the dance floor. But when youre on that floor, its important to be able to just close your eyes and enjoy what youre listening to, and for that you need some beautiful sounds to help carry your mind away. Its important to play music that helps people get rid of everything that theyre carrying around.

sick party, see you freaks there!
Going to this tonight and psyched!!!
See ya there!
I can't say enough about how amazing this show was. I only could make it till about 5 am because I went way to hard the night before, but it was still sick. I walked in for the end of dave ralph's set, and he dropped Eric Prydz - Pjanoo. Second Sun was next and they were amazing. Marco V took the room to another level and it was hard trance the rest of the night.
I then went over and checked out Benassi in the other room, and it was probably my favorite set I've seen him spin. He threw in a awesome remix of thriler about halfway through as well as Bring The Noise. Dj dan was good as well but my favorite of the night had to be Green Velvet. He destroyed the outside area of Karu & Y. Anyway, great night.
This event was pretty cool in that you could bounce from house to trance/progressive to techno, wash, rinse repeat! Loved it!
Loved ATB, Second Sun was intense-I couldn't take the singing, so left for a little Donald Glaude in the house room for a bit, then hit the techno room.
The only thing that disappointed me about this one was that it obviously started right at 10...where as I didnt make it there until 2 in the morning...so ATB was already on, plus a slew of the djs I wanted to see had already played..wanted to see Donald Glaude, DJ dan, uberzone, Bennassi...but it just didnt happen...glad I got to see Eddie Haliwell because he blew the fucking roof off the place! God it was amazing
Was surprised to see all the folks outside but none inside around 6..I guess this city just loves house music alot =)
hands down some of the best techno i've ever heard at this party. I never left room 1 for a second. Highlights of the night were Mistress Barbara's set. her set was fucking destruction. I still can't believe she dropped Butch-Mushroom Man. Shit was awesome.
Green Velvet dropped some insane ass track with a banging bassline with an insane saxophone solo. Gerber's set was a pretty good sunrise type set, especially when he played Reshuffle-Hedonism(Original Mix).
Steve Bug was great as well. My only complaint was Magda+Hawtin. Imo Magda does not need to be playing in front of a crowd. she kept cutting the bass off every 20 seconds and on a couple of occasions I guess she mixed up the knobs and accidently turned up the gain instead of the bass when she was trying to bring back the bass. My ears almost blew off(in a bad way)when that happened. Too many people up on stage too while hawtin was on which Im almost sure was the reason the equipment kept fucking up(tt's and serato kept powering off).
