Sad do u think trance is still alive in the uk

well ?

Posted by JonDC on Mar-13-2008 13:49:

Of course it is. Godskitchen do a monthly night which always comes close to selling out. Turmills on a Friday is always rammed - I know they are closing the club down but the night is gunna be moved to MOS, so it will still be busy (and definatly be better). Passion have sold out their last 2 events. Gatecrashers Magna events are always a massive sucess. Slinky have actually just started putting nights back on!

Why would you think its dead? There might not be as much going on as a couple of years ago but its far from dead. Its doing a lot better than many other genres of EDM.

Why do you think its dead?

Compared to a few years ago it's on life support. Where once you'd hear trance now it's all electro house and so forth. There are still dedicated nights but they're harder to find, and there's not much in the music press or on flyers about trance. And, of course, it doesn't sell remotely like it used to.

well to be fair, it depends where you are in the uk. To be honest i'm from middlesbrough and they have more house nights than trance we did have goodgreef but thats stopped.

a lot of it is to do with the dirty perception it has both in the media and amongst people. When they say trance they assume that all trance must mean a&b and armin and the like, and don't assume there is more than that and the bastardised shite we have like cascada, basshunter etc which the chavs & kids of today believe is true trance.

Ferry Corsten & Marco V @ Turnmills tomorrow night! (14/3/08) Can't wait ^^

uk hardcore sure is

Posted by Jono404 on Mar-13-2008 22:19:

The plus side to there being less trance clubs etc is that it means when you find a trance night, it's normally rammed with up for it clubbers. I'm near Brighton and we don't get much trance, the odd DJ down like Eddie Halliwell etc, but there's an excellent hard dance night nearby.

Electrohouse is on the way out, it's gone way too commercial, it's popularity in the underground has gone in favour of tech-house, and now people will get bored of it.

Gatecrasher at Nottingham is now completely crap, they even have RnB nights for gods sake. Theres only really one good trance night about every month or so, and the lineups on these night still leave a lot to be desired. I personally think they're shooting themselves in the foot, as people used to go to GC because it offered something different, but now they're trying to make it like every other generic club out there.

I wouldnt mind if they played house, techno or whatever, just as long as its not just the same shit that you hear in every bar/club.

You'll always have genres like trance, hard dance, hardcore etc, because believe it or not, not everyone wants to listen to 128bpm tech-house forever.

it doesn't detract from them being utterly fucking farcical

I don't see what necessarily makes trance "farcical."

IT'S BECAUSE AZ DOESN'T LIKE THEM. AND HE'S ANGRY.

In terms of the late 90's it is dead on it's arse.

Sad but true. It will come back though.

Worry not.

Maybe if Moby brings back old-style house, acid house can come back, too, and then early to mid '90s style trance can be reborn.

my post would be formatted more towards this, but i doubt it'll come back lol

maybe in another decade or so in the form of some sort of 150bpm acid techno with stupid vocals or something

you not been listening lately?

don't get me wrong, I used to fucking love it, but it's become so fucking cliche'd, without the intelligence of playing on a cliche, that it borders on fucking unlistenable.....

Oh, I agree that mountains of crap have been coming out lately. I thought that you were hating on all trance or something. My mistake.
