Audacity/LameLib question

Just a quick question to those of you that might be using Audacity on a Macbook, and exporting MP3's with LameLib.

I am new to Macs, and am having a bit of trouble installing LameLib on my Macbook Pro.

I've installed Audacity, but it is telling me that if I intend to export a file as an mp3 I needed this LameLib program. I downloaded that off of Google, but when I double click on the file, it won't open. What application should I try to open this .pmprog file with in order to install LameLib on my computer so that I can export MP3's.

Or, are there any other programs other than LameLib that will work instead?

I've tried to google this, but didn't have any luck

Thanks

I appreciate the link, but I had found that when downloading audacity, and have tried it. Unfortunately I am still getting a message that says audacity is unable to open the mp3 library, and when it asks me to find LameLib, I go through and find it- but I think since it hasn't been actually installed on the computer- it doesn't work. I can't find a program to open the file with to actually install it on my computer.

you can't really install lame as it's not really a program, just an encoder other programs use to encode mp3s.
so you've downloaded this:
http://lame.buanzo.com.ar/libmp3lam...versal-3.97.zip
right?
and unpacked it to some directory, right?
so then you need to locate the "libmp3lame.dylib" file with audacity, which is in the follwing path:
what_ever_folder_you_unpacked_the_file_in\libmp3lame-osx-universal-3.97\package\usr\local\lib\

after that it should work. if not, then i'm clueless.

Yep, did that. For some reason it says it can't open the Mp3 encoding library when I select that file with Audacity...

Not sure if I have a setting that is preventing it, or maybe the wrong version of Audacity?

I use audacity on my macbook pro, but don't use the LAME library. I just export to AIFF and the use iTunes to convert at constant bitrate, I never liked LAME, but thats just me.

I appreciate everyone's responses- I finally figured out what I had done wrong.

I was following the LameLib instructions perfectly, but it wasn't working because I had downloaded the "PPC" version of Audacity- which ran great on my Macbook Pro- except when it came to finding the 'LameLib mp3 encoding library'. I went back to the Audacity website, installed the 'Intel' version, and it works like it is supposed to, now.

Thanks again for the help
