Mike Plays Paul van Dyk

I've been meaning to do this for a while. I've seen loads of these 'tribute' mixes done in the past, but I'm hoping to have done something a little bit different with mine. For starters you won't see any shit like For An Angel and Nothing But You which no one ever seems to stray from.

Anyway, enjoy:

Sure, why not?

Hopefully you've managed to make him sound better than he has.

I did a PVD Tribute Mix for my MP3 player. Mine looked a lot different to yours though. The tracklist was:

1. Tranceparents - Child 2 (PVD's Summer Love Remix)
2. Paul Van Dyk - I Can't Feel It
3. Paul Van Dyk - Beautiful Place
4. Paul Van Dyk - Beautiful Place (Salt Tank Remix)
5. BT - Flaming June (BT & PVD's Extended Mix)
6. BT & Paul Van Dyk - Namistai
7. Thrillseekers - Synaesthesia (PVD's Dark Dub)
8. Paul Van Dyk - Avenue
9. Qattara - Come With Me (Paul Van Dyk Remix)
10. Age of Love - Age of Love (PVD's "Love Of Ages" Mix)
11. Paul Van Dyk - Forbidden Fruit (BT & PVD's "Food Of Love" Mix)

This looks pretty good though. I'll check it out.

Now why is it that I haven't heard of half of these tunes before?

This is really, really solid, classic sounding music right here. I'll echo Tony's comments in that it's mixed really well, but for me it was just hearing a side of PvD that sounds decidedly "un-PvD" (at least to me - I kind of gave up on the fellow long ago and never looked back).

The only ones I really knew before I listened were Vega and Traveling, and those were tunes that some friends of mine just beat to death years back. It was nice to hear those again - but much more interesting to hear a bunch of shit I hadn't before.

Nice one, Michael Mike.

I really like PvD's older stuff. Grabbing this.

Thanks mate. What you've said above is pretty much the reason I wanted to make and share this in the first place. It's quite frustrating to see so many people criticise the music that you like, and not because they have a differing opinion to that of your own, but because they've not heard the full story like you have.

PvD has a huge discography beyond shit tracks like For An Angel, Nothing But You, Time Of Our Lives, etc. and I hope this mix is just a start to opening a few peoples eyes to it

But the title should have been Mike Does Dike.

I don't want to steal Mike's thunder, but since I've had a couple of requests to upload my mix too, here it is:

I never intended to share this mix: it was made just for my own listening pleasure. As such, a couple of mixes are pretty rough (notably the first one). I also did a re-edit of Flaming June and I'm still not sure how successful it was. Anyway, enjoy.

Just had a listen to Mikeys set, great stuff.

Looking through PvDs Discogs it is kinda depressing to see how his productions went down the tubes after Zurdo came out. That album/soundtrack really was the last good thing he did, which is a pity.

Comparing the tracks in this set to stuff like White Lies, NBY etc is just sickening!

Yeah, my cock-up.

Posted by Az on Mar-17-2008 03:39:

if only PvD had actually played like this, I might have liked him
good stuff mike

Posted by cmay119 on Mar-17-2008 04:48:

Thumbs up

Really liked this mix, even though I'm not really into this style of music any longer. Kudo's Mikey Mike! This was fantastically mixed and was a real treat to listen to.

This was hardly a sound I thought Paul produced, so you did a wonderful job in showcasing that.

Again, great mixing, great track selection & programming, A+ all around.

Posted by DJ Patski on Mar-17-2008 04:51:

I'll check this out tomorrow when my downloads aren't capped anymore.

Looking forward to hearing it, bought PVD's latest album and was complete crap - so I'm hoping that this shows his better times

Thanks lads.
