Everybody okay in East Atlanta?

Shit just went down.

Posted by DiscoStew on Mar-15-2008 01:55:

What happened? Weather stuff?

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 02:09:

Fucking tornado outside!

Out of nowhere I hear this BOMBOMBOMBOMOBOBOOOOMBOBOMOBOMBOBOOOMBOBOMOMBOM outside my window and on the roof. (I'm on the top floor.) I look out my window to see nothing but black, and quick flashes that enlighten the ENTIRE CITY to an "ow that hurts my eyes" white. The flashes happened about 20 times in 30 seconds.

Now all of East Atlanta is blacked out. The gas station beside the Commons, apartments down the street, and our parking lot have no power. Even the bank across the street is missing a few letters.

Fuck me, it's good to be alive.

Haha I'm up in the North Avenue commons and that shit was intense. Crazy lightning, I can actually see the dome from my room but I can't see any of the damage they're talking about on the news. Hope everything's ok down below Midtown.

The traffic is RETARDED right now by the way, all the street lights I can see are out / blinking. 75 looks pretty gridlocked going south.

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 02:35:

Yeah, tons of sirens and traffic. Theres another one coming

edit: phew, we're good. It's gone.

Posted by nchs09 on Mar-15-2008 03:15:

Everything is nice and funky here in smyrna.. i heard thunder but after about 10 minutes, it stopped.

Posted by nchs09 on Mar-15-2008 03:23:

Aparently the cnn center is really fucked up

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 04:22:

Yup. So is the Georgia Dome and a couple of billboards. Tom, Donny, my roommate and I are quarantined in our rooms right now. We're supposed to be on the 5th floor like everyone else, but fuck that.

Posted by enydo on Mar-15-2008 04:23:

Wow the damage is a lot worse down there than I thought. My mom called me panicked because apparently on the news they were saying "no building was left untouched".

Posted by ZeeRobot1 on Mar-15-2008 04:26:

Everything is ok here on the East Cobb front.

I heard the Georgia Dome got mrk'd bad.

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 04:27:

Well, nothing seriously happened to the Commons. There was a few windows blown out on the first floor, but that's it. They were saying at the Lofts there was a gas leak.

Did it reach the airport? I work there...

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 04:57:

not that I know of... nothing on the news about it

Posted by Ted Promo on Mar-15-2008 05:07:

Why could it not have hit the Flowery Branch area :/

Posted by Scottaculous on Mar-15-2008 14:36:

Downtown is a mess. Don't tornados usually hit trailer parks?

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 15:34:

Everything is good in our building. Theres only minor reconstruction that needs to be taken, thank God.

Posted by DiscoStew on Mar-15-2008 16:12:

Get ready for round two...

Posted by CyclonesWorld on Mar-15-2008 16:15:

rofl I'll never forget that quote on the news.

"I thought it was terrorist or a tornado"

Look out for those Al-Qaeda tornados!

I love how they keep saying that "we have had some buildings collapse in what we call a 'pancake' fashion". Way to be technical and sensitive.

Posted by iammesol on Mar-15-2008 16:23:

lol

I'd like to know where there are collapsed buildings. The only serious damage other than the GA Dome, Omni Hotel, and CNN Center I've heard of was a staircase collapse in East Atlanta.

Cotton Mill lofts where some of my friends live. I think they said the C building had the "pancake" thing happen to it. The exterior walls are still standing but all the floors fell down on top of each other. I remember hearing that it may take a day or two to excavate and search for people but you'd think there would be some marginal attempt at a head count to see if the excavation needs to be decidedly urgent.

Heard on the news that everyone was accounted for.
