Wighnomy Brothers - Metawuffmischfelge (Mixed Compilation)

Surprised it hasn't been mentioned here yet.

Booze-swilling Germans The Wighnomy Brothers issue a new mix CD on Freude am Tanzen. Metawuffmischfelge arrives next month.

The Brothers, aka Robag Wruhme and S�ren Bodner, are Jena's drunken masters of minimal house. Behind the decks the two are a jovial pair, often seen punching the air between tracks with an ever-decreasing bottle of plonk.

Metawuffmischfelge captures some of this, er, spirit with overlapping fragments of tracks from the likes of Agoria, DJ Koze, Mathias Kaden and Tadeo running on and reappearing throughout the mix. Besides the usual minimal house and techno players, there are also selections from Sidsel Endresen & Bugge Wesseltoft and Lisa Gerrard as well as snippets from Robag's secret stash of samples. The result is a tracklist which looks drunk, too.

You can "prelisten" the whole thing at the usual sources. And in my opinion we don't have another solid minimal/tech mix...In fact i'm surprised that wighnomy brothers tried to make a mix that's suitable for home-listening aswell. Really great balance between techy beats and calmed down melodies here. Far superior to other recent compilations like Mandy's Fabric or Elle Allien's Boogybytes. This one is must-buy for me.

I don't usually buy mixed comps but this was good. The way they mix makes the relative age of these tracks a non issue to me. (not that tracks have best before dates but when buying a mix comp of stuff you already have, something better be special about it.) The Violons Ivres to Thatz In My Brain segment really stood out as the best programmed part of this. Pedo bear approved.

i usually find it pretty hard to get into minimal/techno compilations but this one is quite good.
