Wink

ok...i know it may seem this way, but i'm not totally computer illiterate...yet i keep running into problems that i can't solve...here's another.

i just recently installed 128 MB of ram ontop of the 64 i previously had. the problem is, at times my computer is still using the maximum amount of available ram...i'm not running shitloads of apps...usually just aol, napster, and a couple of IE windows. after a reboot my system is using around 60% of my available ram but after my computer has been on a while, it seems to always be using the maximum amount of available memory...even if i close some of the apps. that i'm using...why is this...what's wrong.

(i am using the right type of ram...sdram pc-100...and i did install it properly...i think....i've never installed ram before...but after installing and upon rebooting my system, it detected the new ram that i just installed)

err not sure.. but umm

1) u sure u didn't get sold defunct rAM?
2) try taking out ur existin 64.. and just shoving 128 in.. 3) does it detect ur 128 in ADDITINO to 64?
4) check Control Panel > System and find the RAM under there ( i think).. does the 192MB show up?
5) lol i have no idea.. just a couple ideas.. =p

Drunk me dumb!

hehe, i don't know much about techie bits...but i play around some on 'puters
anyway i've never seen a windows machine use less than 60% no matter what kinda configuration it has
personally, so long as the computer hasn't gotten worse...i wouldn't worry about it hehe
sorry i couldn't help...but i hope u feel better now!

lol that reminds me.. my laptop starts off at 100% system resources.. but at bad times of the day.. it drops to like 12% lol.. then dies on me lol.. and thats with 128RAM.. lol i ain't exactly runnin anything particular excitin tho.. weird..

that's because when you close appz system resources are still being used.

fortunately there are programs out there that can free up the resources that were left over.

two programs off the top of my head are

memturbo and winram.

hope that helps! good luck.

Thumbs up

make sure that you dont have alot of stuff on the screen like links to programs...also dont have a lot of programs run at star up unless in necessary..Make sure you dont have alot of programs loaded on system taskbar..takes alot of resources...i you see my PC it has only my computer icon and 2 programs loaded on task bar..which is my AVX anti-virus and winamp..my resource are like 91%.

see ya at Ultra..

Memturbo kicks ass.

Make sure you've got nothing in the Startup folder on the Start Menu.

Press Ctrl+Alt+Del and see how many programs you've got running. If you see stuff in there you never use, uninstall it.

Also, make sure virtual memory is turned on! You need about 300 Megs free on the hard drive for virtual memory. Anything less and your system will grind to a halt and fall over.
