...A mix series created to showcase some of the best-crafted melodic music from around the globe to prick my ear! Ultimately it is a celebration of the wonderful work that some electronic music producers do, which unfortunately seems to go unnoticed by and large. Those tracks which stir the spirit and transport yourself to somewhere else entirely. Its smooth, deep and melodic-loveliness all the way...don those headphones and get stuck in

Ilya Malyuev-Little Sad Smile (reprise)
Ulrich Schnauss-influenced work by the increasingly experimental Ilya Malyuev in this beautiful reprise.
Pete Lunn-Calgary
A distinctive little melody slowly uncoils before percussive and rhythm elements are overlaid and built upon, all of which creates a sumptuous chill-out track.
Lokitas-Lullaby (people in love mix)
Distinctive atmospheric breakbeats from Lokitas with that trademark operatic vocal. Deep in every sense!
The Quasar-Shining
The first of two unusual tracks by the highly creative and innovative 'The Quasar'. I'm at a loss to describe the feeling in this track, suffice to say its chuffing great and injects some urgency to the mix.
Deerk Hollaender-Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy (paul keeley remix)
The original was good but this interpretation is special indeed. A track that oozes summery goodness and charm, all delivered by that memorable rolling bassline.
The Quasar-Twilight On The Mars
Quirky and interesting initially, this track quickly becomes fast-moving melodic progressive. Lovely use of unusual sounds throughout in this.
Michael+Levan-January Morning
After a nice long mix we enter the world of Eastern European dark progressive by the forerunners themselves-Michael+Levan. This track has a HUGE 3 minute breakdown that creates the lull before the higher tempo latter stages of the mix, plus its bloody beautiful to boot.
Zodiacal Light-Celestial Navigation
Ocassionally you may find a melodic prog-trance like this which isn't littered with cliches and formulaic build-ups. When such a record is found (as this is) much rejoicing ensues The drum rolls (among other elements) in this are fan-fookin'-tastic!
Masque-Landscaping
After a necessarily short mix out of the last track the bass of 'Landscaping' smacks straight into the listener with considerable force. I've been so impressed with the work of the fast-improving Masque recently, long may he continue.
Gui Boratto-The Rivington
"Windmill Sessions in techno shocker!" Yes, this track could be called techno, but don't panic-its beautifully melodic and powerfully emotive in its electro-influenced goodness.
Michael+Levan-January Morning (mango remix)
Russian wonderkid Mango drops another bomb with his remix of 'January Morning', which showcases a darker and more electro-infused ethic, while still retaining 'that Mango style'. Yum!
4Mal+Matthew Adams-Computer Parts (4mal wireless love mix)
Bosh alert! One of my favourite tracks for a couple of years now which has only just seen a release. Perhaps the only track I will gladly sing along to in suitably camp karaoke fashion!
Lange-Nearly Home
Lange's 'Nearly Home' provides the perfect send off reminiscent of those filmic moments as the picture fades to black and the credits roll after an epic tale, the glorious goodbye

Really like your style - the tracklists in your sets are always top notch and introduce me to a lot of stuff I have never heard before. I've downloaded all of your mixes that you've uploaded on TA now, and I really appreciate the effort and your time sharing. These windmill session sets are perfect to turn and and just relax to.

Not sure if I missed it in another thread, but what equipment do you use for your sets? I haven't found many flaws in your mixing at all- really great transitions between tracks.

Thanks again for your efforts uploading and sharing these. Look forward to more in the future.

Thanks mate, feedback like that means a lot. Hope these mixes deliver an interesting tracklist each time, its quite an effort to track down some of the tunes and even harder when deciding on what tracks should be included-which have that special feeling about them. Glad some of that shows through in the finished product.

As for the mixing...well, I sort of cheat Ableton is my friend! It really is an amazing program for getting those mixes silky smooth and the transitions perfect, though I feel I'm learning all the time and have certainly improved my mixing over the last year or so when compared with the earlier windmill mixes. For me Ableton produces better results than with Cdjs and mixer anyway.
When I do mix outside of Ableton it is usually with mates equipment or the club set-up(such as Pioneer CDJ 1000s-sex!), as my old Numark decks aren't up to much.
Keep on tuning in!

great set man - some good tracks in there that had some "air-time" to it, if it makes any sense....very melodic/uplifting. good stuff!

As in 'hands-in-the-air' moments? If so then thats cool! There are a few tracks near the end in there that really do deliver a big payoff that would do some damage in the clubs!

The opening ambience in Little Sad Smile works well. It�s peaceful and dreamy. In fact, it reminds me of something you might hear in the opening moments of the latest In Search of Sunrise series (Tiesto bashing aside). The fade into Calgary is very well executed, and it immediately takes over with its percussive elements. Then the melody comes in, and this track really takes off! Another nice mix, and we�re into the whispered vocals of Lullaby. I commented earlier on how great the atmosphere is in this track. The opera-like vocals really set this one off.

The xylophone sounds of Shining slowly work their way into Lullaby. Combined with some shouts and other odd sounds, this track really stands out as unique in the Windmill series. Though different and interesting, I must say this type of track simply isn�t my style. Perhaps it will grow on me as I listen to this set more and more. The melody in the breakdown is nice, so there�s hope. Nothing Worth Having Comes Easy mixes in nicely with its distinct bass line. Its warm lead builds to a nice little crescendo, and then this track really sets sail! Great lead and percussive work on this gem. A warm, pleasant track all around.

Next up is another Quasar track with a quirky, seemingly disco inspired guitar lick. This is another track that will have to grow on me, as it too seems to be a departure from the essence of the Windmill series. Not that change isn�t allowed or encouraged over time. It�s just�different. A long, smooth mix brings us back to the essence of this series with January Morning. I remember enjoying this number when its release was highlighted in the New Tracks forum. Now I can finally listen to it in its entirety! Epic breakdown on this number. It does, in fact, remind me of a January morning. The track is darker, but at the same time it has an underlying warmth. Perhaps akin to being inside a warm house on a cold January morning, observing life from the confines of a house full of windows.

Celestial Navigation creeps up next with its warm, airy guitar melody. This tracks picks up the pace of the mix and really adds a lot of warmth. It reminds me of being outside on a warm night under plenty of stars with good friends, good wine, and good music. I�m reminded a little of La Noche from ISOS4, and that is a good thing. If I knew anything at all about the Spanish countryside, I might say it reminds of being there, possibly.

The deep bass of Landscaping meets the listener next, and a lovely little melody begins to quickly build. Great trancey elements in this number. Wow! Massive track, that�s all I can really say about this one. Great mix into The Rivington, and now we�re into the heart of the set. The mix has officially taken off now. The Rivington just assaults the listener with absolutely no mercy! And, yes, that is indeed a good thing in this case. Great find! It�s a shame this one has to end.

Mango�s treatment of January Morning is up next. When I first heard January Morning, I kind of favored the Original Mix, but after hearing both in their entirety, I�m leaning towards Mango�s remix. Great heavy kick and teasing vocals. Mango really takes this track up a notch. Computer Parts comes in with that characteristic 4Mal sound, but I think this track could have done without the vocals, unfortunately. Computer Parts fades nicely into Nearly Home. Excellent closer. Deep percussive elements and a great lead surround the listener.

Another great installment, Spike. Cheers as always for the share!

Textbook Zoso work on the review! Pleasure to read mate. The Spainish countryside feeling you got made me laugh, but I totally understand what you are saying-the fact the music evokes warm and peaceful memories and locations.
Can't argue with any of your points, even sort of agree with you over the Quasar tracks. The reason I included them despite their quirky nature was the fact they sounded so unique to me, in a way I wanted to celebrate that innovation. With hindsight I could have just put Shining in and left Twilight on the mars out.
As for the vocals in computer parts....yes they're a tad gay, but its a track that puts a smile on my face!
Glad you liked the slighty techier/electroey tunes near the end, was debating whether to include them, but I felt they worked so well in conjunction and still retained that "Windmill" feel

I'm generally not a fan of the electro/techier stuff, but in this case the tracks you chose weren't strictly electro - they still retained plenty of melody. Great choices!
