A word of advice to ANYBODY putting sets on HERE!

Not to be rude...

I'm tired of sets being thrown up on these pages, that don't download when you right click and "save to disk" -- all these sendspace and megaupload stuff is SHITE...you want people to download your stuff, but you are putting them through a laborious process just to get your MP3 set.

If you can afford to record you own mix, get your own webspace to host your sets. It would save everyone alot of trouble. Plus it would make the experience enjoyable and I wouldn't have to waste my time writing this post.

It's not easy to listen to everybody's set or download 20 sets in an hour anymore, but it could be. I usually pass up sets hosted on sendspace and such anymore, cause it's a damn hassle. I am such others echo the sentiment.

Peace and love

I don't see why Megaupload is shite:

1. It's free to use.
2. It doesn't even require a membership.
3. It will keep hosting a file whilever it's being downloaded.
4. I've never known a download fail from it.
5. It's a 20 second wait for a download to become available.
6. It's easy to use for both parties.

Given the download time anyway for a file the size of a mix, if you call it "laborious" to type three letters and wait 20 seconds, you probably don't have the attention span to listen to a full mix anyway.

Beggars cant be choosers.

I know it's annoying to wait 30 seconds at Megaupload...but its a small price to pay for an Ipod full of quality mixes that cost you $0.00

You should be thanking uploaders instead of being critical.

And what if somebody puts up maybe 2 or 3 sets a year? Is it worth paying for hosting if you rarely even use it?

So, it takes you an extra minute or so to grab a set? Jeez...

Fuck off.

Own hosting FTW!!

Though I do use a portal site to track stats and allow people to rate my mixes

What he said

leave the kid alone, i mean if that is him in the avatar its just not right to give him sass. Megaupload is said to be very challenging for special people. And by special, i mean retarded.

pudge face

I don't know guys...I understand his point. It's nicer to just have a direct download--I'm not going to skip over a good looking mix because of the sendspace/megaupload redirect...but it's definitely nice to have the former.

Posted by elFreak on Mar-20-2008 10:53:

buy the tracks
buy the gear
put the effort in to record a set

all to hear a whiny bitch who gets stuff for FREE complain.

of course its nicer, i'll agree...but if you dont like it just don't download. Complaining about it is pretty gay.

yup

Stupid to complain about it. Takes a bit longer to upload than to download just in case you forgot. Anyway, if these sentiments are echoed by a lot of people, maybe they can all contribute 1 or $2 and buy some TA webspace just to host sets. That much for a year is hardly anything right?

I have no problems with any of the hosting sites, but if it is such a big problem then collective TA webspace is a good answer.

Whoa whoa whoa. Let's not get too self-righteous here. In some sense, posting your DJ mix is indeed a gift to any interested listener. You (and even I) are sharing hours of hard work and it is frustrating to hear someone complaining about something as trivial as our choice of hosting service......

However, none of us are superstars here. No one here has "made it" and can honestly say their listeners need them more then they need their listeners. We all really want people to listen to our mixes, and we really have a responsibility to make that as easy as possible. I think it's not really in our best interests to be this mean to a potential listener's gripe.

I don't see how you find it a hassle to download from sendpsace, I host all my mixes on there, and I usually have have direct download, until my last 2 sets, for now. Nobody has had any trouble downloading my sets, so i don't see what your problem is. Having your your own website in NOT CHEAP!! first of all, if you want to do one for me free of charge, i'd like to see that

Cheers

Biting the hand that feeds...

What a buttmunch.

Posted by Kris G on Mar-20-2008 21:28:

Jeez, what would you have done in the days of copying tapes and having to physically send out mixes? The lazyness of some people these days...

Posted by DjSway on Mar-20-2008 21:46:

Inconvenience? Do you know how much work it takes to find the damn songs, put a good set together and convert into MP3 format and then upload it?

Yes it would be nice to have a direct download but that is way too much effort for regular dj's like us.

Anyone wanting hosting for mixes can PM me.

A few years back before the link sites came up, direct links were the way it happened often enough. Sure it was easy, but I can't tell you how many times I would right click and the set was gone, and the link dead from over use. The sites were not set up with the bandwidth to handle so many people hitting it all at the same time, and were simply shut down.

I posted a direct link to a college radio site in Atlanta, my hometown, for a show they were sharing. A few days later the radio station took down the direct link, and never hosted a set from their radio shows again. I felt personally responsible for killing that one. So I'm glad to use the link sites for that reason alone.

For the amount of money I spent on 2 premium accounts, mega and rapid, I would have 10 CD's. Now I have well over 2 TB of music. Gotta love the link sites, they are great!!!
