System blue screen since new keyboard....?

yo guys.

please could somone help me out or point me in the right direction to what i need to be doing.

i recently bought a new pc keyboard (usb with a ps/2 adapter). my original standard ps/2 keyboard died when i spilt cider on it..


anyway, i plugged the usb keyboard into the ps/2 port on my pc (using the included adapter). since that day i have had blue screen crashes on startup of the pc..

everytime i try turning the pc on it takes a few on then offs of the pc. and a blue screen comes up with 'memory dump' and other bullshit codes.. and everytime i try to get into windows it takes more on and off's before windows loads.

now it has got to the point where windows goes onto blue screen after 20 mins of use..

the keyboard didnt come with a installation cd and i expected it to just work.

what can i do to find the problem my pc is having.

ps. recently the pc has started to just go blank without even a blue screen (requiring a wall switchoff and on again). just before this happens i see the writing during startup and it is like it is trying to load from the a: floppy disk drive....

im sure it has started since the new keyboard, but now it does it with an old style ps/2 keyboard like my original one

well with any hardware you're suppose to insall drivers BEFORE you plug in your device... some let you use the windows 'found new hardware' wizard some make you use their own.

i would go to the manufacturers website and download the drivers and read the install guide.

on the note of your pc tring to boot up from a: ... this is not good... spend hte afternoon backing up, this is the EXACT error i started getting when my HD crashed.

no offense, but that his PC boots from floppy drive doesn't matter...it's the usual boot sequence which is set as default to most BIOS. it's A: C: SCSI or something similar.

richg101: Hey Rich, try to look for the device driver and change it for some default one there are far too many included in windows and you can just select about any (unless you have some special keys like the MS keyboards and many others).

Selecting a new driver should remove the "possibly faulty" driver that your keyboard uses.

If it doesnt help I'd try to connect it to USB port, to see if it will work without the adapter (it can be faulty too).

Oh and btw, I am no pro, so please ... I am just thinking aloud

Yo, I.T. guy here and hopefully I can help you solve your problems soooo...

I'm going to need more information in order to walk you through this process...

Which windows operating system are you currently using? please be as specific as you can. For instance, if you're using XP....is it XP Professional, Home, Media Center...etc

Also, do you have a copy of your OS on hand?

And....have you tried booting using the keyboard in the USB slot or booting with no keyboard connected at all to see if the problem still persists?

EDIT: As mentioned earlier, You should also definitely backup everything that you consider important.

When you split cider on your old keyboard, it is possible this shorted the PS2 port and fried it. It's highly unlikely though, since the voltages in a ps2 port are too low to cause any damage afaik.

you don't need to worry about installing drivers for your keyboard. however, if you HAD installed drivers for the previous one, it is possible they are doing some weird things now.

heres what you do...

1. try a usb mouse AND keyboard. no ps2 peripherals at all. disconnect all non-essential peripherals. reconnect them one by one.

if that doesn't fix it...

2. restore bios to defaults, reconfigure bios and reinstall windows

if that doesnt fix it, it's most likely your motherboard. let us know, so we can go from there if that's the case.

the problems still persists when i remove the keyboard from the ps/2 slot, and the keyboard would not work on the spare usb port i have. i opened the keyboard and the electrical tracks look darker in places, like they fried. i was amazed because the voltage cant be more than 3.5 volts to fire up the led's on the keyboard. also, when windows finally manages to load up the new keyboard works fine. as does the mouse.

my os is xp home edition (genuine copy). i have started backing up everything and now just have 2 or so gigs of photos. all other stuff is safe on cd-r. the pc has been used extensively since 2005 and i expected it to die soon, but seeing as it was running without any problems until the new keyboard i am questioning the natural death.

keyboard wont work via usb.. (and it confuses me because there is no install cd with the keyboard)

i do not know where the intall cd is for xp

I just read the writing on load up...

it said 'searching for boot from floppy' then two lines. searching for boot record from...IDE...?

each blue screen shows one of about 5 different issues.. sometimes avg7core.sys, sometimes atapi(the make of my cd drive (and probably my floppy)), sometimes 'memory Dump'. after 8 or so on and offs, windows finally loads. and each attempt takes me closer to full windows load until it finally loads. but then windows will go to blue screen after anything between 5 to 30 mins. sometimes it doesnt, but it is getting more often.

with reagrds to AVG.. i deleted it, but then another one of the problems then creates a blue screen.

I tried installing new hardware and it says everything is running smoothly...

will my constant on-offs at the wall have had an effect on the way the pc loads, or do you think it is this one change the keyboard made that is triggering a host of other things to go mad?

ps. i tried to intall updates from microsoft to see if i was behind in updates but the shitty update on the website didnt work! fucking ****s want me to buy vista i guess...

the message from AVGcore sys or whatever the crap was comes from you deleting AVG instead of uninstalling.

The system tries to find the file which should be loaded with the system and it can't find it...tadaaaaaaaa there goes the bluescreen...you might want to try to install AVG again...and uninstall it...(so it deletes the references for the boot up)

sorry to hear about that we'll if your still getting the problem i would run a test on your hardware as you could have a fault on your ram etc.

If you know any tech guys who has eurosoft pc check or something like that to test your hardware i would suggest that as it might be hardware related.

this program is very good as this is what i use for my clients when there is a hardware fault.

im guessing this is my excuse to get an apple and logic... its progressively getting worse now. im getting the feeling that there has been a short somewhere. using another keyboard doesnt help, and sometimes the keyboard wont work. there is something fried. and everytime i turn it on something else dies.

oh how i would love a mac but a little too expensive just now anyway, i've ended up buying a new computer there actually a quadcore and it's doing the job nicely.

Rich: the blue screen you're getting is because you deleted AVG...



seriously it can be the only fault, not at all an issue of hardware...and if you really are unsure, send the keyboard over to me...I will have somewhere to put it to a good use

hey mate.

i tried unintstalling avg and reinstalling uninstalling etc.. it just blue screens with something else when avg is gone..

im looking at a new pc now. i mean mine is a celeron 2.6 with 512megs of ram. its been virused up to the eyeballs ever since a stupid porn binge/wankathon (without virus protection) some years ago during single life at uni. and i have all my storage safely backed up now. will be nice for a fresh slate.

oh sorry then...have you deleted some other software along with AVG back then?

this happend to me with my laptop its sumthing to do with hardware but it took near a year for the place to fix it properly i thort it was the HDD but still done it after it was replaced still done memory dumps and only after getting everything replaced in the laptop it worked without doing memory dumps so my advice is da bring it to the place u got it if its still under worrenty and if not u r pretty much ****ED!!!!!!!

well if your computer does not have USB slots your best bet is to get a motherboard adapter or maybe a PCI card that has usb ports.


drivers for a keyboard are not gonna make your computer crash, however that ps2 connection might be. check in the BIOS to see if you can disable the ps2 port and get those USB ports.
