Balance 005 appreciation thread

I know it has been done a hundred times already, but this mix really deserves it.
After listening to it for at least 20-30 times it's still as interesting as always.
I remember the days when I've listened to it for the very first time and thought it was boring, I even made a thread about it.
But really, that mix is a damn journey. From the very beginning to the very end.
And track You Are Sleeping is so genius I can't stress it enough. Always gives me chills.

Discuss.

Got link?

Yes it's been done thousands of times, but I've listened to this mix even more than that and I'm still nowhere near tired of it.

If you haven't heard it yet, you're going to have to buy it or download it. Can't help you with that, though.

Exactly. I'm listening to it right now and enjoying every second of it.

This album has been covered more times than Jenna's face, but i'll probably never get bored listening to it. I just have to remember to stay away from it for a few weeks/months every now and then.

Yeah, listening to it daily or weekly probably would be a bit too much...
But once you play it after a few months, it really is blissful.

totally agree. some good tracks, some less good tracks. both CDs are decent but nowhere near as good as people here rave about it.

I guess it's one of those things that you either "get" or you don't. And if you do wind up "getting it" then you adore it much more than everyone else

Heh, I still can't believe I found it boring the first time I've heard it.
That was almost 3 years ago, though. A lot has changed since then.

Do what you want ftw...

Yeah, I found it boring at first, but I attribute that to being a trancefag. There was something about it though even when I found it boring that kept me coming back.

also, may I be the first in this thread to say that I don't think disc 2 gets enough praise. Sure, disc one is the better and is incredibly outstanding, but disc two is really not that far behind. The only thing that really separates the two is the cohesion and the intros/outros (which are better on the first disc).

One of my favourite mix albums...Infusion's mix of 'Do what you want' being the major highlight along with that whole cd...petter,PQM etc. and that track at the end with the train station announcements - totally atmospheric & the perfect 'journey end' track if you know what i mean

Posted by nchs09 on Mar-23-2008 18:37:

CD 1 is one of my favorites, the second cd is kinda shitty.

One of my favourite mixed compilations of all time. That cd introduced me to techier prog. house, style that was real fresh and interesting back then. But what's even more important, that cd announced some really big future releases on Border Community (Outhouse, The Difference It Makes, Real, The Sky Was Pink). That time (early to mid 2004) was one of the most exciting periods in EDM ever IMO

legendary

does anyone spin this kind of music anymore? I really like Holden as a DJ now, but this CD is totally different that the music he's playing ATM.

The Sky was Pink wasn't on Balance 005.

That's true, both discs are great. But first one is greater.

There was a discussion about that...
Holden himself has said that period of Balance 005 type music is behind him.
Sadly.

I like Balance 005 just fine. It is up there on my list, though I do not think that I would make it one of my tops. It is great though and it never seems to get old for me, or pasta . . . ??
