Serato compatibility with cdj 200's

I've tried searching the topic and came up empty handed.

Heres my situation.

I've been djing for a while. have cdj 200's and I am thinking of going the way of serato. However, I've noticed that Serato is primarily ment to emulate vinyl. Cdj200's only have "cd mode" or cue-stutter....

Now, I've tried a buddies 1000's on cd mode and cueing up a song is less than accurate. It's as though there is a delay.. or something? Like, i'll press play and the cue point will either have a gap before the song starts or it will start after the first beat (even though ive manually cued the track to the exact frame before a new 32 count begins). Now, I am aware you have to tap cue to restart your cue point, after pressing play, so that eliminates me from being completely retarded and just forgetting to re-cue.

Do i need to upgrade to cdj400's or 800's to make serato work legit for me? or is there something like a firmware update that can fix this problem, and allow me to accurately cue within "cd mode"

From what i've read online mate you've got it spot on.

Yeh they'll work but the cueing issue will still be there

Sucks ass.. Hope you can sort this out without too much hassle..

Good luck

Or look at another DVS.

Torq Connective? Never tried on my CDJs but works awesome on my stanton TTS, and its hella cheap.

I'm using it with my CDJ200's with no issues what so ever... cueing it fine for me..

so is torq better for the cdjs200? Or is it more like serato is a little overkill for the cdj200's?

I would think they both function essentially exactly the same on cdjs, but I use Torq on a daily basis and have only used SSL a few times so I can only go from that.

With the 1.5 torq release coming it really might be a legit alternative to SSL......well at least for people like me who don't DJ out and only in bedroom & house parties. The pricetag is attractive...

I've used in in a club setting and it works well there too.

Torq is liek SSL at half the fuckign cost and thrice the functionality.

so why does everyone love ssl so much? Does torq crash a lot more than ssl? Does the interface suck compare to ssl?

Probably because it came out first. Its a proven program, people don't like change, why fix it if it isn't broken sorta thing is my guess.

I'm probably looking into something like Torq or SSL soon, to use with my 200s, let me know if you get one or the other and how it works.

I'll prob just get torq since I don't dj out, but I want to wait til 1.5 comes out. I'm not sure how that's gonna work. Like is everyone gonna have to pay the $50 or what, little confused on what to do. I'd also like to hear some reviews on 1.5 and if it has a tendency to crash or whatever...

if you but torq after the upgrade then you dont have to pay

Posted by Neo95gt on Mar-28-2008 02:58:

What if I buy it used now or after the upgrade? Do I only get the free upgrade if I buy it new after the upgrade is released?

with 1.5 coming out relatively soon...i would probably pick up torq after it comes out, if i were you.

btw...ive been using torq for a few years now...i dont dj out or anything...but the only time ive ever had a crash with torq, i was curious what would happen if i pulled out the connectiv box out with torq still open...and to my suprise...it crashed.

i also had a pc that was barely at the minimum specs.

first thing with cdj 200, you wont be able to have an easy use of relative mode, so you can't use cue point, loop, etc within serato. and that's a big mess.

there is a little delay when you press cue, but this delay is really small, most of the delay is in your head, cause you are not use to it.

i'm working with a cdj200 and fs2 - no problems, neither in absolute nor in relative mode...you just have to adust your cues manually and it comes in with a slight delay, but thats not the cdjs fault, but the dvs...

I just got torq today and I can't figure out how to use the auto beatmatch feature with my cdj 200's. Can you not use this feature for external devices?

You can't use the sync feature in external mode. (but think about it, it would defeat the purpose of external mode in the first place)

Most of the DJs I know who use Torq have had to fall back on their vinyl/cd collection at times because it just isn't as solid as SSL.

A few weeks ago my friend played at a warehouse and was using Torq to drop in some of his original tracks, but it crapped out on him and he had to go back to his record collection. The next week he was doing a webcast and the same thing happened. He got on the mic and said 'torq is fucking up on me because well... it'll do that, so I'm going to drop some vinyl'

I also had another friend get upset with me out of frustration because I told him that Torq was probably exactly like SSL except cheaper, so he bought Torq and kept having problems with it.

Another friend of mine uses Torq and while he likes it he does admit that the sound quality isn't up to par unless he connects the unit to an AC adapter.

Most of the gigs I've played lately have been on SSL. I only had to bring my hard drive and my headphones. I never bother to bring any backup music because I trust SSL that much.

Well maybe its just going to take me some time getting used to it, but I find beatmatching with torq 10x as hard as manually. I just figured out last night that I can still use the "Tempo +6/+10/+16" change button on my cdjs with Torq, so this will probably help a lot.

That will help a lot to say the least.

I don't play gigs, but this is the exact reason why SSL is the "top dog". It has proven itself since it was released. I haven't had any problems with it, and a mate of mine has had it longer than me, and he hasn't had any issues either.

It has become the industry standard for Virtual control.
