shady phone calls
Ok, so here at home we've been receiving some weird ass phone calls regularly : we pick up the phone, it goes silent for a couple seconds, the call goes dead. The last couple days we've been getting this sort of calls pretty much every hour(!) during the afternoon.
I'm trying to understand what could possibly be the purpose of this and here's the possibilities:
a) someone genuinely trying to call us, like from a foreign country (we have family in other countries), but with phone problems.
b) automated phone calls from some spam/advertising thing that keeps on failing. Notice that we get this sort of annoying calls pretty regularly, like surveys, people trying to convince us to change phone operator, etc.
c) prank calls from some dumb kid
d) calls to see if anyone picks up as a sign there's someone home - to see when's the correct time to do a robbery on the house. However, this would make loads more sense in other places or in a movie (
) - this is a very safe area, and there's pretty much zero security at home. Hell, we often forget doors unlocked, there have been occasions where there's nobody home and we forgot a car outside left unlocked, etc etc. If someone wanted to rob this house, there'd be nothing left already.
e) i pissed off someone in the internet, they took it personal and somehow got my home phone number
Any ideas?

I was about to reply to that rapist picture, when the bell rang.
I open the door, I see a pickup truck and this shady guy looking like a white version of the guy in that picture... same moustache and creepy looks...
He was bringing a new gas bottle. We're now sure not to lack hot water this week. W00t!
I reckon robbery. But not impossible that it's dodgy wiring either. Or some mong can't use a pay phone.
I've done the last one... hahaha.
Sorry dude, I'll stop.
Just got another one. This time I didn't say anything and the call didn't went dead, I got bored of it and stopped it though. It's not automated, unless it drops the call automatically whenever it detects a voice response.
lol sorry i had to do it one more time
try to engage in a long conversation
*69 or caller id to know who it is? You did not mention this in your post
I bet it's an ex gf/bf
I used to get weird hang-up calls but they were mad freaky b/c I would here my own voice echoed back after I said anything
Next time this happens, yell foreign curse words into the phone.
If you opt for this suggestion, I can give you some choice phrases in Polish or French
Contact you phone company and explain the situation. They should figure out who is bothering you if it is indeed the same person over and over again.
Then again cursing in a foreign language may also work, though i would suggest chinese or german instead of french or polish...more intimidating
i used to have the same problem. we had some mentally handicapped lady call our house 20 times a day. she hung up when we spoke, and sometimes she would just yell HELLO and later hang up. she tried calling her mother who had a similar number to ours.
i have a handicapped cousin who did the same thing. she would call some other family constantly and hang up when she didn't recognize the voice of the receiver. got to the point where they called the police.
so.. call the police, and hunt the retard down.
You know what... I think that's the most likely explanation so far. We get calls from people that dial the wrong number very often here, because some dude who sells things to old people has a very similar number. I remember one day an old lady kept calling us all the time, convinced this was the correct number and we were bullshitting her in telling her it wasn't, haha.
Trancealot: the calls turn up as "anonymous" in the phone screen, and I have no idea what the hell *69 does. I'm guessing that's a code specific for the USA, don't forget I'm in the other side of the world, heh. But I could be wrong.
The police are unnecessary IMO, and it's not my call what to do with it, I still live with my parents.
maybe someone is calling for phone buttseckz
but gets dissapointed when they hear the voice and hangs up ![]()
