Need some help with art..

Okay for my final in my textile drawing [aka fashion doodleing] I need to find a painting/piece of art to base my story board on.

I'm obviously far from an art history major.. anyone know of anything? I have to design 10 outfits, aka a full line, from it.. so it needs to be a little more than the damn Mona Lisa.

thanks in advance
and shin kicks to the rest of ya

google 'erotic art'. if they're naked, how hard is the assignment?

not paintings or whatever but this blog has some really cool/simple art. check out the rest of the archives/amok artists. not sure if you like stuff like this but give it a look:

ah i should have been more specific. it needs to be old.. like Renaissance etc.. like something that would be in the Louvre

So its down to Picasso or Dali

I love Guernica
I saw it at the Reina Sofia a few years ago
but I think I need something with a bit more color.. etc

Posted by Sushipunk on Mar-26-2008 05:17:

You could go 'gothic' and try Victoria Frances?

Posted by barbina on Mar-26-2008 05:46:

see I like Guernica because of the angles. theres so much I could do with that.. and I can use the pain and angst and anger to accent the angles with colors like black and red. lol. its an easy theme... and I can do it all without being gothic and keep it feminine

I want to do a girly, feminine but still crazy fun and random line.. fuck.. this is hard!

who ever has the best storyboard gets to produce one of their outfits. so this kinda big for me

mass murder has always inspired me to make feminine clothing

Giacomo Balla, Dynamism of a Dog on a Leash

I'm sure it's been done before but this is rich:
Duchamp - Nude Descending Staircase

De Chirico - Hector & Andromache

probably also done before:

Gustav Klimt - Adele Bloch-Bauer 1

Gustav Klimt - The Kiss

I like Klimt's stuff quite a bit actually. Good call.

the first and third are amazing.
the dog one.. with all the "mesh" that i could use
and the diamonds.. and the movement which could reflect into drapery
.. brilliant call

the "hector" one makes me think of bodices and leggings. with a lot of Victorian style influences.

thanks so much! im definitely using one of those two
.. or the picasso.. or the dali .. fuck!

Klimt's art was the the first thing that came to my mind as well.

how's this:

I don't understand what your supposed to do....

Create 10 outfits which would make us of a "classic" piece of art that would be used as a motif?

Is this a fashion or textile design course? or both?

Posted by nefardec on Mar-27-2008 22:41:

sounds like an intro to design exercise or something

i remember a studio i once had with a very similar 2 week 'warm up' design problem
