arpeggiator?

the arpeggiator sounds so sweet...

but what is it actualy doing?? and can you simulate it with reason??

Arpeggiators play arpeggio's... for example on the way up, Bb major is Bb, D, F, Bb. Just draw the notes in the sequencer and it will play them for you.

Just to add something... you'll probably want to stick with the first three notes and play them as 16th notes, one after the other...

eg) Bb D F Bb D F Bb D F Bb D F

There are 2 kinds of arpeggios: the normal arpeggio (which Michael Russo described) and a cascade.

If you want to know what a cascade sounds like, listen to Armin - Communication, Dutchforce - Deadline, Major League - Wonder, etc. etc. This is a frequently used effect, especially in Dutch/German Trance.

Basically it's like a waterfall, with lower "padding" keys complementing the higher notes of the main melody. I'm not sure if I'm using the right terminology, but it's an amazing effect often used in build-ups

Hey Eugene, can you give any more information on this. Is there any online sites that describe how to achieve this effect.

I don't consider that a "type" of arpeggio... that "effect" is achieved by combining an arpeggio with another melody, one on top of the other.

you dont know where i could get some information on how to do this could you? or do you have say a 1 bar midi file so i can see what you mean?

I'm not 100% sure how to achieve this effect, but here are my thoughts:

Create a main melody line, and then another line "underneath" that complements it. Leave some breaks in that lower line. In FruityLoops it would look something like this:

_- -_-__- __

you get the idea. Then, add delay to the bottom track, which will smooth it out (so there won't be any audible breaks, and also the "padding" will sound soft, much softer than the main line.) You can pan the one part slightly to one side and then pan its delay slightly to the other side.

yes you can make an arpeggiator effect on reason through a number of ways.. here are two clips I made with reason.

But on the "with Arp" clip it sounds like u have gated it , not used a Arp.

Yeah, I don't hear an arp anywhere, but very good though!

yes rob I did use a gate effect to make it sound somewhat like an arp but still most of the synth notes are programmed like an arp. I'll shall send you a longer clip on icq.. l8tr
