DJs & Producers drama: internet memes, flaming, controversy

Inspired by the cornucopia of deadmau5 bashing, I was curious to compile a list of all known clashes between artists and their fans, or just between artists themselves.

Danny Tenaglia
Danny went off on a crazy rant about his club set being recorded against his will at some club. The thread can be found here

Darude
Darude often posts on TA. Haven't seen any drama yet, except for a little criticism of his DJing to which he constructively replied.

Dave Dresden
Dave Dresden is infamous for posting on TA a lot and participating in some bashing, which then resulted in him quitting the forums with what is remembered as an emo post. Needless to say, it resulted in more bashing and an epic fail. Also see the Lunasea controversy

Deadmau5 and Deadrat6
Marcus Schossow and Maor Levi created deadrat6, which was a parody of deadmau5. Under the alias, the produced tracks such as Very Exactly, The Result Is Cheese, Printing Russia which are mockery of deadmau5's tracks Not Exactly, The Reward Is Cheese, Faxing Berlin. deadmau5 has been under fire for allegedly overusing 1/8th notes and it's been claimed that most of his tracks sound the same, so Marcus decided to see how hard it would be to produce in the deadmau5 style. The parody, Very Exactly, was actually played by Armin Van Buuren in ASOT 330
There is a myspace page for deadrat6, to which someone, allegedly deadmau5, retaliated with a Marcus Fat$$0w myspace and a parody of Marcus' Mr. White tune, Mr. Black.

Blake Jarrell
I've seen references to Blake's activity, but not much.

Johan Gielen
Some time around 2003, 2002, Johan Gielen came onto the TA IRC channel after his Trance Energy set and was flamed for playing cheese. There was also a thread on the forum criticizing him and his set.

Carl Cox
There was a Carl Cox meme in the COR, but I missed most of it.

Markus Schulz
Markus wrote some negative comments about the TA bashing in this thread

Max Graham
Max asked TA's to caption a picture of him in this thread. As a given, when an even slightly-famous artist is participating in forum discussion, there will always pop up at least one person who'll find it necessary to mention how much they think the artist's productions or DJing suck/s. Kudos to Max Graham for not even getting onto the soon-to-be trainwreck. Also, I'm not surprised to see that UKTAs were involved

Richie Hawtin
CDM mentions something about Richie Hawtin being "subject of a surrealist Internet parody and very popular joke t-shirt line". This I know nothing about.

Steve Angello
When Angello posts in this discussion of a new Angello/Ingrosso collaboration, indirect accusations of selling out start to fly. To these, Steve replies with "Please little child run along, I run a major business, the odd few hundred that you get for signing a filler track isnt even enough to buy me shoes". The statement, in all its glory, opens a rather nasty can of worms.

carl cox ate in a place where a ta was working iirc. Questions arose as to how much he tipped.

People bashed Jake Blarrell?

Posted by whiskers on Mar-28-2008 01:22:

I see that in hopes of getting more contributions to the topic, I have posted the thread in the wrong place (i.e. the new /b/)

Shame.

There were mentions of threads getting "Blake Jarrelled". Wait. I see what you did there.

I like vocals and Dreadmau5 doesn't do any I'm aware of so I don't really care.

What kind of future did you see for this thread?

An intelligent discussion about what kind of shenanigans were pulled by DJs and producers.

Maybe not in bizarro world that is COR. Someone probably should move this to the music room.

Markus and the long essay he made way back around 2004 or 2005

Steve Angello & his shoes.

Dave Dresden had to do with the NYTA blonde girl.

edit - & Dave Dresden will live in infamy because for about 6 months after the deal... everyone was posting dave dresden in the middle of their sentences.

If he were to search his name on TA i'm sure a shit load of thread will pop up.

edit 2- here is Dave Dresdens last post

Venture out the CORe much?

He's a producer that posts on this forum but I don't remember any flamings from him.

He posts quite a bit and regularly.

Man reading through some old threads is funny. I forgot about the olllllllld FLTA Mod JayD. I never even met the guy. He's the equivalent of Ian [Redeye.]

Posted by tubularbills on Mar-28-2008 03:28:

the dave dresden stuff was kinda funny....but carl cox, man that shit was (and sometimes continues to be) EPIC

edit,

also Kosmas Epsilon posts on here too - and i haven't seen any *drama* per say from him either

double edit,

the first time i saw a post of one of his sets in the DJ Promotion forum, i was like, "OMG ARE YOU THE REAL K.E." and he was like, "yeah, why wouldn't I be?" and i was like, "OMG SIGN MY FACEEEEEEE PLZZZZZZZZ" seriously, i was kinda astounded

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Mar-28-2008 03:33:

I am convinced that Markus thread in MD was deleted.

Dammit! I tried searching everything.

JK!

Found Markus Thread

& just because all the threads I found happen to start with "A message from [insert name here]

This is Dave Piazza's thread

O RLY!?

what kind of stuff does he produce?... probably some lame ass progressive house/trance producer that has nothing better to do than post pictures of his "studio" which is probably just a laptop on a desk with a chair... maybe a desk-fan somewhere nearby - for all those warm summer nights in chicago...

Posted by MeLLyMeL on Mar-28-2008 03:55:

he actually had a guest mix on GDJB last month that was pretty good.

im bored if i just spent all that time searching for drama threads.

I thought of more... I'm sure Mike Foyle had one when he started posting but who knows what the flame was about. lol

i think i need TA's anonymous

Posted by RJT on Mar-28-2008 03:55:

Blake gave me herpes and Jay gave me AIDS.

I think they canceled each other out.

Edit: And Mel - Blake is an active MWTA, Denys is just taking the piss. We all know and love that drunken bastard.

blake's a cool guy, eh produces quality tunes, great sets, and doesn't afraid of anything.

i heard all he does is adds a kick drum to his remixes.

What i remember from the c0r:

-Santiago Nino ripping off his web designer thing... big thread, big argument, not much comprehensible English on his part.

-The thread where Max Graham asked us to caption a pic of him (poor bastard)...

MTL TA:

-Darude explains he didn't just randomly leave the shitty montreal club he was playing at, he was kicked out because he refused to play sandstorm at the owners request (lol)

-A current bit of deadmau5 bashing (which he seems to be taking well).

-James Zabiela has had to post to defend his choice of opening DJ for his past two visits...

edit: please find the chop of carl cox with the giant cheeseburger

Posted by bigjimslade002 on Mar-28-2008 05:21:

i remember the dresden incident being that he read a review by an nyta girl in which she slammed him and he thought he was a friend of hers or something and confronted her about it through chat.in which she then turned around and posted the chat log for everyone to read.i think thats how it went down its been awhile.

Hands down the best(worst depending on who you ask) flame post with a producer i ever saw here was early on in TA in which Airbase posted a thread attacking the site and Swamper for putting one of his songs up for download(a common practice at that time).

Swamper stated that he misunderstood a conversation he had with him and would remove it immediately but other TA's took it upon themselves to defend the site and Swamper and a huge flame war erupted against Airbase eventually driving him off the site for a while, but even when he came back the damage was done in a lot of TA's eyes.

To this day a lot of TA's i know who dont like Airbase point out that thread as one of the reasons they dont like him, and i remember one TA took it upon himself to post negative comments and reviews against Airbase in every thread he started or was mentioned in,sometimes going head to head against Airbase himself in many threads,in which surprisingly the TA came out looking the better.

There were a lot of flame threads about it afterwards which im sure with some searching they can be located.
