I know at my GF's work they arrange for people that drive to pick up some people in their area...other people walk..

Posted by Kamka on Mar-28-2008 02:15:

I hope I'll be able to work from home by then if the strike really happens...

This is exactly why toronto is going broke.

I say fire them all and rehire at normal non union wages

i like your style of thinking, cold, crude and to the point.

+1

I have lost all sympathy towards the TTC union(s) years ago.

What kills me is the 100% short and long term disability demand. 100%... who would actually offer this and why? Where's the incentive to return to work? No insurer would underwrite such a policy.

Posted by Zentac_75 on Mar-28-2008 11:59:

WOW...90% of the time I hear the passangers complaining about ttc service, not the employees.

It seems every time they have a chance they go on strike. Both sides obviously have to get their act together because millions of commuters are used as pawns. Though the union seems to lose in the court of public opinion.

What I don't get is that there are so many other ways to get what they want. TTC is an essential service. Why doesn't the union just instruct all their drivers to refuse fares? The customers would love it and they would still be sticking it to management.

Personally dislike unions and the entire concept of them.

Just an FYI, there's a green P Parking on the Esplanade (Yonge & 1 Block south of Front Street) where it is $8.50 to park all day (7am - 6pm). That's probably one of the cheapest parking lots in Toronto.

It's like a 5-6 level parking garage so there's always parking too. It's directly across from the new London Lofts and is directly adjacent to the Novotel Hotel.

PS. I hate public transportation in general. I'd rather pay more and pollute the environment then have to rely on Public Transportation...FUCK!

The major issue at the moment (as someone mentioned) is 100% compensation in case of an injury - as opposed to 75% that everyone else in Ontario gets.

Get this, CP24 posts a "cry-baby" story of a female TTC driver who got harassed and hurt during a work-related incident where a bunch of teenage girl passengers swarmed her. She had bruises and what not.

Now get effing this - she has been out of work, sitting at home, collecting 75% of her steady paycheck (75% of about 25$ is about $19!!!) for the last 3 friggin years!

THE INCIDENT HAPPENED IN 2005 - SHE IS STILL COMPLAINING ABOUT IT.

My guess is that would be illegal.

Posted by Sly_Guy on Mar-28-2008 14:16:

honestly, how many times have they threatened or gone on strike in the last 5 years? Seriously, if they had all these issues with their deal why can't they put them on the table all at once? They look like greedy union fat cats now, and I don't think anyone has sympathy for the ticket collecter earning a bloated salary for sitting in his/her fat ass all day.
