MTV Makes feature film attempting social commentary on Iraq war...

....rest of world still remembers "My Super Sweet 16" and cringes hard.

http://www.stoplossmovie.com/

quote:

Decorated Iraq war hero Sgt. Brandon King makes a celebrated return to his small Texas hometown following his tour of duty. He tries to resume the life he left behind. Then, against Brandons will, the Army orders him back to duty in Iraq, which upends his world. The conflict tests everything he believes in: the bond of family, the loyalty of friendship, the limits of love and the value of honor.

Notable quote: "Nothing we did over there bothers you?"

I guess this is just our apology for the Iraq war then, huh?

Sometimes I just hate the world.

yes this movie looks very shitty. not a fan at all.

What I honestly have a harder time understanding is the people who spend money on this kind of shit (or on the 9/11 movies, Pearl Harbor, etc.) - I just don't know how you say to yourself, "You know what sounds like loads of fun? Going and seeing a big Hollywood film that makes light of a horrible tragedy. That'll be great."

There are very few films I've seen that deal with such sensitive subjects in a manner that seems acceptable to me (Schindler's List is the one that comes most readily to mind).

Cloverfield.

Posted by RJT on Mar-28-2008 04:42:

I have absolutely no desire to relive that day in any way shape or form beyond talking about it with other people.

I wasn't anywhere near New York or D.C., I don't know anyone who was hurt or killed, but for one reason or another just watching that all unfold on live TV still really, really fucked with me to the point where I just don't take it lightly (especially given the all the more tragic long term results of the day).

Dude, agreed. Saving Private Ryan, actually, was the first one that came to my mind.

Had no one to go with - Myra is very, very particular about both what movies she'll see and more specifically what theaters she'll go to.

Shit dude, that's not a movie you take a chick to. Wouldn't want her to see the pee running down your leg.

I SCARE EASILY, ALRIGHT?!

The actual monster wasn't so bad... it was the... eh... other things that had me freaked.

lol, that SOUND! OMG best part of the whole movie, imo

edit,

on topic, this new movie is a lame attempt for MTV to be all like, "look at us, we care about stuff other than 16 year old girls, and we want to make our statement" or whatever. totally lame.

double edit,

also, i guess this movie is geared towards 16 year old girls anyway...i mean, you've seen the previews right? where the dudes look like something out of a exercise magazine or whatever. no one in the army looks like that. i mean, shit look at zewad's fat ass

I saw it for the first time in the theaters when I was in fifth grade - for some reason or another at that age I was fascinated with the Holocaust, so much so that I had a teacher and a concentration camp survivor who spoke to our class write a note to my parents saying it was OK to take me.

I made it about an hour or so in - to the point where the first woman is killed, point blank shot to the head, and was absolutely horrified. I made my dad take me home right away, but was clearly messed up from seeing it for a while.

I thought Pearl Harbour was historically accurate.
After all everyone knows Ben Affleck single-handedly won the Battle of Britain, then single-handedly stopped the Japanese from destroying Pearl completely, and then destroyed Tokyo in the Doolittle raids.
Completely plausible.

Not to mention the Pearl Harbour bombing sequence in the movie acutally went for longer than the real bombing raid.

Quality movie that.
