Are your lights off?

some tree hugger just yelled at my house to turn the lights off... so i did! i wonder if they'll notice a difference on the grid.

Are your lights off?

Posted by Nicolas Oliver on Mar-30-2008 00:19:

No, but I plan to watch The 11th Hour soon.

Posted by kotsy on Mar-30-2008 00:20:

I'm sitting in a dark room, but I normally am anyways, lol. I'm indifferent towards Earth Hour.

check out www.google.ca

No...I don't like having sex in the dark. Plus we're leaving the appartment in a bit for the evening, so I figure the whole night with the lights being left off thereafter will make up the difference.

Posted by Ozmozis on Mar-30-2008 00:32:

Oh, I thought we were supposed to turn on all the lights?

i believe i read somewhere that a display showing a greater number of black pixels vs. one displaying a greater number of white pixels consumes less energy. if so, thats clever on google's part !

Posted by loca on Mar-30-2008 01:15:

We turned our lights off. It was kinda cool to have to do something other than watch TV or go online for once.

Posted by Dj Gracjan on Mar-30-2008 01:20:

ummm i dunno what i should do stop spinning on all this equipment or just turn off the lights and keep on spinning. or turn off everything?

Posted by MarkT on Mar-30-2008 01:21:

I forgot, but was in the middle of on online exam for a class anyway and wouldn't have shut everything off.

sorry Earth Hour.

(although I use those low wattage CFC bulbs anyway, so whatever).

Google users in Canada will notice today that we "turned the lights out" on the Google.ca homepage as a gesture to raise awareness of a worldwide energy conservation effort called Earth Hour. As to why we don't do this permanently - it saves no energy; modern displays use the same amount of power regardless of what they display. However, you can do something to reduce the energy consumption of your home PC by joining the Climate Savers Computing Initiative.

i was downtown at school so we went to check it out. nothing really special. the blackout was much cooler.

I turned out all the lights in the house, lit a few candles, and spent the hour having a very relaxing bath.

because google told you to do so?

Posted by Dj Smitty20 on Mar-30-2008 01:35:

why would David Suzuki schedule Earth Hour during the 2nd period of Hockey Night in Canada?

I turned everything off except for the tv, my lamp and the computer...if that isn't good enough, he can kiss my ass. I'm pretty good with electricity usage anyway since I'm a light nazi and buy those new bulbs, never put my heat above 20-21 and AC never below 24.

Besides, is it just me or was this the most poorly marketed environmental protest EVER?

There you go!

That's the spirit!

But I got a question, what does turning the lights off have to do with turning of everything that consumes energy? ie. TV, radio, DJ Equipment...

If they wanted us to do that then they would've specified Earth Hour - Turn of all sources of energy for one hour...

When did it turn from turning off lights to turning everything off?
